Annual awards go to Pete and Renee Kerckhoff and Real Life Church
Pete and Renee Kerckhoff
Pete and Renee Kerckhoff and Real Life Church are the 2019 recipients of the Partners in Education award from the  Raymore-Peculiar Public School Foundation

They were honored on Feb. 23 at the annual Gala, which is a celebration and a fundraiser. Sponsorships, donations, and participation in silent, and live auctions raised money to support  Foundation projects, grants, and scholarships.

The Kerckhoffs have an impressive resume of community involvement and support.

Pete and Renee met while attending Belton High School, but didn't start dating until Pete was in college. Early in their marriage, t hey  moved to California for Pete's job and had two daughters, Danielle and Brittany. The couple returned to the Midwest, settling in Raymore in 1992. Both girls are Ray-Pec High School graduates.

While working in a variety of positions over the course of their careers, t he Kerckhoffs have enjoyed giving back to the community. Pete's community involvement has included: serving on the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Ray-Pec Public School Foundation board, and as a Raymore city council member and as Raymore mayor.

Renee's community involvement includes: Raymore United Way, serving on the Belton Educational Foundation board, and serving as Raymore Historical Society president, and a Belton Historical Society board member. Renee was also instrumental in expanding the CAN program District wide program under the Foundation umbrella.

Both Pete and Renee are active in the Belton and Raymore Chambers of Commerce and Raymore-Peculiar Sunrise Optimist Club. Renee is a past president of the Belton Chamber of Commerce. Renee has also been honored as Optimist of the Year in 2017 and was inducted into the Belton High School Hall of Fame in 2016.

The Foundation also honored Real Life Church.  Pastor Sean Petrie and his wife, Diane Petrie, accepted the award on behalf of the church.

The Petries began Real Life Church in September 2017. Since that time, the church has helped to organize and implement a renovation of the Panther Closet, which is a place for families to obtain hygiene items and gently used clothing.  Church members helped to repaint and relocate the CAN Food Pantry and helped provide child care and set up for both of our Good Neighbor, Strong Community events in 2018.

Real Life has also helped with sorting CAN donations, Back-to-School events, and the MAD Dash 5K. The church also hosted a peanut butter drive for CAN.  Real Life Church also supports a variety of other local community and global organizations seeking to make a difference in our community and beyond. The church meets weekly at Kentucky Trail Elementary School in Belton.

Last day of school is now Friday, May 31
Due to the snow day on Feb. 27, the District calendar now shows the last day of school as an early release on Friday, May 31.

Students will have school on March 25 and April 22. In addition, there will be full days of classes on May 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, and May 30.
