ANNOUNCEMENTS
Center Stage Series - Art of Time Ensemble: Songbook with Steven Page. Steven Page, formerly of the Barenaked Ladies, joins the highly inventive Art of Time Ensemble in an evening of seminal songs by Randy Newman, Radiohead, Elvis Costello, Barenaked Ladies, Leonard Cohen, and others. Songbook is chamber music for the modern era.The performance is Saturday, February 17 at 7:30 p.m in the Center for Faith and Life. Tickets are available from the Luther College Ticket Office or online.

Time to prove to your friends and others that you really can sing! Show up this Friday, February 9 in Marty's for "Kookies & Karoake!" You are welcome to show up at 7:00 p.m. and after to register to sing karoake on stage from 7:30-9:00 p.m.! Also, frost your own "kookie" while you are waiting to perform, or while watching others perform! Free Admission! Sponsored by SAC Entertainment.

The Dorian Orchestra Festival Grand Concert, showcasing some of the most talented students from the area, is set for 7 p.m. Monday, Februay 12, in the Center for Faith and Life, Main Hall.  This event features the Festival String Orchestra, the Festival Chamber Orchestra and select soloists
 
Spring Activities Fair!  Plan to attend the Spring Activities Fair, Tuesday, February 13 from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. in Williams Lounge, Dahl Centennial Union. Students interested in learning more about student organization involvement and leadership opportunities can browse the various organizations, gather information, and signup!

Recently returning from their January Term trip to Namibia and South Africa,
21 Luther College students who participated in the Music 245: "Choral Singing in Namibia and South Africa," course will present a program at 7:30 p.m. Friday, February 9, in Jenson-Noble Hall of Music, Noble Recital Hall.
The program includes both music and spoken reflection.

Luther College Professors Spencer Martin, viola, and Nicholas Shaneyfelt, piano, will present a recital at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, February 10, in Jenson-Noble Hall of Music, Noble Recital Hall. The program, Gems Rediscovered, includes selections from Paul Juon's Sonata in D Major for Viola and Piano, Op. 15, Ernest Walker's Sonata in C Major for Viola and Piano, Op. 29, Benjamin Dale's Suite in D Minor for Viola and Piano, Op. 2, and Robert Fuchs' Sonata in D Minor for Viola and Piano, Op. 86.
 
From Aunt Jemima advertisements to the board game Ghettopoly, American popular culture is replete with racist images. "Hateful Things," a 39-piece traveling exhibition of items of material culture from late 19th century to the present that embody the effects of the Jim Crow legacy, is on display from February 12 to March 2 in the Center for Faith and Life.  The items come from the Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan.

French Film Series : This semester, we highlight interactions among people of different classes and ethnic groups.  Joyeux Noël is based on true encounters between the French, Germans, and British on the battlefield in World War I. The film is in French, German and English and has subtitles. All are welcome to attend - Sunday, February 11, 8:00 p.m., Preus Library, Hovde Room.

"College Broke" to Six Figures - Sharon Bui, founder of Frill Clothing, will share the story of how she took $350 and a dream and created a successful company that was featured on the hit programs Shark Tank and Beyond the Tank. Come learn how to go from "college broke" to building the business of your dreams. Her story will inspire the student entrepreneur, leader, and dreamer.  Monday, February 12, 6:30 p.m. in Olin 102.
 
Seniors: Individual study carrels are again available for reservation on a first-come, first served basis in Preus Library. The carrels are located along the perimeter of the third floor and are assigned for personal use on a per-semester basis. Contact Eddy Atwell to request a senior carrel reservation for the fall. There are a limited number dedicated for this use. 

Trailblazing jazz trio John Raymond and Real Feels will bring their brand of dynamic improvisation to Luther College Thursday, February 15, for a guest recital. The performance is at 7:30 p.m. at the Center for Faith and Life, Recital Hall

Want to learn more about how to recognize and prevent relationship abuse?   Join us for the Escalation Workshop on Thursday, February 15, 7:00-8:30 p.m. in Olin 102. This powerful workshop is interactive and includes a film and discussion. Sponsored by Counseling Service, Wellness, NASA, Student Life, and Helping Services for Children and Families. 
 
SEMESTER ABROAD OPPORTUNITY! Come learn about two semester-long programs offered through the Associated Colleges of the Midwest - Fall 2018's "Brazil: Culture, Community, and Language" with Prof. Molly McNicoll and Spring 2019's "London and Florence: Arts in Context" with Prof. Amy Weldon - at an informal information session with the profs and with representatives from ACM. The session will be held Wednesday, February 14 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in Main 214. Hope to see you there!

LAB CHOIR, sponsored by FMEA begins on Sunday, February 18, at 3:00 p.m. Join your fellow music-lovers for an introduction to what Lab Choir will be this semester, some fun icebreaker activities, and some beautiful music!  Lab Choir will provide a place for conductors and singers to practice their skills, and offer exposure to excellent, teachable music, no experience required. Chicago artist James Jankowiak will be the first artist featured in Luther College's new Artist Talk series Thursday, February 15. In addition, Jankowiak, whose exhibit "Prismatic Vernacular" opens Friday, February 16, will be present at a gallery opening featuring the work of local youth, also occurring February 16.

Decorah Walmart shopping shuttle will run from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 11. This is open to all students and there is no charge, but reservations are requested, please register here. Students should meet in front of the Union. Sponsored by the Diversity Center.

Attention Students Registered for Private Music Lessons - If you decide to drop lessons the following schedule will be used to compute the charge for spring 2018: Dropping lessons by February 11 - No charge; by February 18 - $45 charge; by February 25 - $90 charge; by March 6 - $135 charge; after March 6 - Full charge/$495. This schedule will be followed with no exceptions.
 
The Luther Magazine  seeks students' photos from study away experiences spring 2017 through J-term 2018 for our spring issue. All who send photos will be entered in a drawing for a $50 Luther gift card. Submit up to 6 photos. M ake sure to include what program you were on and your class year, and 
tell us, in two or three sentences, what inspired you to take each photo. Send photos by March 6 to [email protected].

The Luther College Ticket Office will be taking applications for employment for the fall semester until February 19 at 3:00 p.m. Pick up your application at the Ticket Office in the Cemter for Faith and Life.

Dahl Centennial Union 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Different camps at each fair. Stop by and visit with the representatives about their summer staff opportunities. You may get an interview that same day! SAC Concerts is excited to announce that JUDAH & THE LION will be performing in the Regents Center on Saturday, May 5 at 7:30 p.m.! Tickets will be available soon for $40 or free with CAF. Get excited, Luther!

Calling all students! The Development Office is looking for engaging students for a work study position. Job duties would include communicating with alumni to update contact information and asking for donations to the Luther Fund. Ideal candidates are outgoing and have a lot of Luther spirit! Annual Wii Bowling Tournament in the Book Shop - Team entries are due Monday, February 12. The Wii Bowling tournament runs February 19-March 16. Gather four of your friends and take a mental wellness break in the Book Shop. Please sign your team up in the Book Shop or e-mail Vicky Jaeger.
 
Valentine's Day is right around the corner - do not forget to pick up a card and a gift in the Book Shop. Keep on the look out for our V-day promotion on the 13th and 14th too.

Order Your Luther Class Ring - On February 9 Jostens will be available from 9:30 a .m.-3:30 p.m. in the Dahl Centennial Union to order your class ring. Special discounts will be available.
