Reminder: CAQH information updates
In recent months Michigan's health plans have communicated the Medicare mandate for physicians to regularly attest (every 90 days) to their information in CAQH. The MOA is reminding you to do the following:
1. Review your information in CAQH and make corrections to assure that your information is accurate.
2. Review ALL locations attributed to you in CAQH.
3. Attest in CAQH.
4. Have a plan to attest in CAQH every 90 days.
If you are no longer at a particular location, please archive the practice location in CAQH. An expired CAQH attestation will lead to your practice information being suppressed in the health plan directory.
Review your CAQH information and attest ASAP. Health plans are taking this mandate very seriously and may consider network termination for providers who fail to follow CAQH guidelines for attestation.
It is our hope to provide you with this information so you may avoid such drastic action by the insurance plan.

Doctor burnout:
Two brand-new JAMA studies raise more concerns
To fix the doctor burnout crisis, the profession needs to better understand it first, physicians examining these studies argue.
In two studies and an editorial in its Sept. 18 issue, JAMA takes a deep dive into physician burnout, exploring its prevalence among physicians of different specialties and the different-and often nebulous-ways burnout was measured in the past.
Burnout and specialty choice
The
first study
found that resident physicians in urology, emergency medicine and general surgery were more likely to report symptoms of burnout than internal medicine residents.
The study, a survey of over 3,500 residents, also found that being female and having anxiety in medical school were associated with a greater risk of burnout. Roughly 14% of survey respondents said they regretted their career choice. These physicians were also more likely to report burnout symptoms.

Autumn Convention in Grand Rapids - Session Highlights
The 14th Annual Autumn Scientific Convention will once again be hosted at the Amway Grand Plaza in Grand Rapids. Sessions that fulfill LARA requirements include: Identifying Human Trafficking and Pain Management. A physician Wellness Center will offer OMT, yoga classes and relaxation areas. (

Pay off debt and Increase your credit score at the same time
Student loan debt and credit score management are concerns for many young and soon-to-be physicians. There are many steps you can take to begin to pay off your debt and increase your credit score -
at the same time.
1st - Know Your Credit Score
The most commonly used credit score among lenders is known as the FICO® score. To determine one's credit score, FICO looks to the three reporting credit bureaus - Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. There are five main factors go into determining FICO scores.
2nd - Reduce your Debt
Once you have an idea of what your credit score is, you can then begin to implement strategies to improve your credit history while reducing your debt. Here are five strategies to consider:
- Make payments on time.
- Address delinquent accounts.
- Focus on high-interest debts first.
- Pay off accounts with low credit limits.
- Keep credit utilization under 30%
As you begin to look toward a future after graduation, it makes sense to review your current credit standing. By putting strategies in place to pay down debt and improve your credit score, you will be better able to take advantage of future opportunities.

BeRxSAFE alliance Promotes Drug Take Back Day with Twitter Chat
The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) promotes a "DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day" twice a year. The effort focuses on the importance of safe disposal of unwanted and expired medications. This autumn, the efforts will include a Twitter Chat with a collaboration of Michigan organizations that advocate on behalf of community health issues.
As part of the "
BeRxSAFE" coalition, the Michigan Osteopathic Association (MOA) will join in a Twitter Chat on
October 24, just a few days before the DEA event on Oct. 27.
Twitter chats are a great way to highlight a particular issue, generate valuable discussions and feedback, and demonstrate leadership. The MOA has participated in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day Twitter Chats in the past and the events have shown to generate lively conversations and helped to show a united front on an issue that is one of the most urgent community health issues of our time.
