Xtreme Friday Fuel "Late Night"
All 4th-8th graders are invited to this year's Friday Fuel "Late Night" on April 13. This is a new name for our "Mini Lock In." This year we will be experiencing a Live-Escape Room with the theme, "The Finding at Christenson Manor"
Events for the evening include escape room, dinner, large group games, Bible Study, S'more snacks, and a servant project.
Registration begins at 6:15 and program at 6:30. Our closing will end at 10:00 pm. (Please eat supper before coming)
Cost: $20 per person. (Friends $15) Family Max $35. VOLUNTEER'S will receive a $5 discount.

View artwork of our ELC through Eighth grade artists between 5:30 and 6:30.
Listen to the musical strains of the Kindergarten through Eighth grade musicians at the concert at 6:30.

PTL Appreciation Lunch - Volunteers Needed!
Friday, April 20
To allow for our teachers to enjoy their luncheon, we are asking for parents to watch the K-8 classes from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm. Two parents are needed per classroom. K-3 parents will help out by supervising lunch and recess (lunch/recess from 11:25-12:20) with about ½ hour of classroom time after lunch/recess. While the 4-8 grade parents will need to be in the classroom by 11:30 (lunch/recess from 11:50-12:45). With some time in the classroom before and after lunch/recess. Giant Game Night!
Don't miss this year's Giant Game Night this April 27 from 5:30-7:30 pm. Besides our Life-size Candy Land Game, we are adding a Life-size Pac-Man this year. Giant Jenga, Kruplunk, Chess, Yatzee, and other giant games are sure to be fun. We wouldn't want to forget everyone's favorite, Laser Tag, so it will be returning as well.
All the games are free. Dinner will be "Taco's in a Bag " with other snacks available at a reasonable cost. Our Shepherd High School Students will be providing the food and helping lead the giant games.
To help support our youth who want to attend next year's National Youth Gathering, we will give the food proceeds and have a special donation board where you can show your support.

Jack's Corner
QUESTION:
My grandson's school gives every kid a ribbon on Field Day just for participating. The same is true for his club basketball team. Every kid got a little trophy just for showing up (They had a terrible season.). When I was young, we had to actually earn a ribbon or trophy. Awards were for the best. We didn't get a reward for doing what we were supposed to do. How can I challenge my grandson when his parents and his world seem to want to equalize and reward everyone for not doing much of anything?
ANSWER:
Now-a-days, in an effort to protect self-esteem, we often drift into the ridiculous. For a time, self-esteem was thought by many in the academic and psychological community to be the panacea for all behavioral ills. It was hypothesized that all we need do is lavish praise, build up a child's self esteem, and performance, motivation and acceptable behavior would follow. How has that formula worked....
