Dear Saint Rose Families,
After two years of surveys, data, meetings, and a great deal of collaboration, Saint Rose Catholic School had its accreditation visit in conjunction with the Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association. Saint Rose was visited by six principals from the Toledo and Cleveland Diocese. Our final report will then be reviewed at the state level. Our improvement plan will be combined with our strategic plan. This plan will be shared with our community this spring.
Our visit was very positive. Not only were we compliant in all categories, we were commended in our development of our Catholic Identity Plan and Academic Performance Plan. Great compliments were also extended towards our faculty for their professionalism, knowledge and collaboration. I am very proud of the hard work that went into this process. Again, the components of this plan will be merged with our strategic plan and shared with families this spring.

3rd Grade Class Mass - THIS WEEKEND!
Come join other families with students in Grade 3 at 9:00 am Mass on March 3. Together with the larger Saint Rose family, you can create bonds of friendship as you worship together. After the Mass, enjoy a simple reception in the Sacred Heart Center (school cafeteria). One family is asked to volunteer to bring up the Offertory gifts, and several families are asked to serve as greeters before Mass (arrive at 8:45 am).

Congratulations to 8th Grader Katie Hoyt! Katie is this year's Saint Rose winner for the Perrysburg Exchange Club's Patriotism Essay Contest. Katie, along with three other students from Perrysburg Middle School, shared essays with their families and the Exchange Club at the winner's banquet Monday night. Essays will be published in the Perrysburg Messenger Journal in the coming weeks.

Spring Musical

Volunteers Needed for Spring Musical
Our spring musical is fast approaching and we are looking for 2 available, hardworking parents to oversee tech crew. We need someone that will be able to attend rehearsals from March 18-21 and April 1-4, as well as each performance. Responsibilities include: assisting tech crew with their tasks (lights, music, cues, props, etc.) until they get comfortable with it, keeping tech crew focused and on track, and acting as a backstage support person during shows. School Advisory Council
Have you been looking for a way to give back to your school? We have a great idea for you: apply to join the
Saint Rose School Advisory Council. We are all parents of current students at Saint Rose, ranging in age from Preschool thru Eighth grade. Some of us have been a part of the school for many years, and others have only been here a shorter time. Together we form a group that meets a few times a year with the pastor and principal to consult and advise on school matters such as long-range planning, public relations, and policy development. We also are a connection point for any parents who have questions, concerns, issues or suggestions that they would like to bring forth to the administration.

Counselor's Corner Feb. 2019
Guidance Lesson Recap:
This month's lesson focused on the lifeskill of
PATIENCE. The students emphasized not rushing for something to come. We discussed how we could utilize this lifeskill in every day life with our friends and family.
Grade K/1: We read the book
Henry the Impatient Heron by Donna Love. This story was about a bird that was very impulsive and didn't not think about its decisions. He would tend to scare away his food and fly away to his own leisure. Then he was lost and had to figure out some strategies in order to catch food and survive. He learned the life lesson of patience in how valuable it is in many aspects of his life. As a class, we demonstrated how we could show patience at school and with our friends in the classroom.
Grade 2/3: We read the story
Game Day by Tiki and Ronde Barber. The story discussed how the brothers grew up playing football and the obstacles that they faced growing up. In the story, it discussed determination and how they had to be patient and work hard to earn their success to finally play for the NFL. As a class, we talked about how with any goal that we have, it is important to be patient and focus on ways to improve each day. We discussed what patience can look like at home and at school.
Grades 4/5: We continued to teach the
Be Kind First lessons, which emphasized how to be a good friend.
Grades 6-8: As a class, we discussed the definition of patience and what it may look like in the middle school. Students then had the opportunity to create an intricate structure out of marshmallows and toothpicks. This activity utilized the lifeskill of patience in that they had to determine a plan or goal, and slowly plan it out for it to work. Students had to use this lifeskill in order to fix any mistakes and have the creation they had in mind. What amazing designs the groups came up with!
Career Exploration Program: Eighth grade students will have an opportunity to explore their career interests and will have the opportunity to shadow a person in their career choice. We are excited to see what the students have learned throughout these next few weeks!
What to Expect This Time of Year
This time of year, it is not uncommon for your child to struggle with staying motivated with schoolwork, but having all of the snow days makes staying motivated much harder. Here are some helpful tips for difficult days. Helping set up a consistent morning routine can help with some morning anxiety of the unknowns of the day. Additionally, prepping your child ahead of time, such as describing any known changes in the schedule will help your child feel more prepared during the day. Lastly, setting up a behavioral goal at the end of the day, such as planning a fun activity after school, may help your child stay motivated during the morning and school day.

Tutoring Opportunities
Middle School Tutoring Volunteers
Earlier this year 8th grade students ran a project where they tutored younger Saint Rose students after school from 3:30-4:15. This was well received and in meeting with 8th grade students they mentioned the desire to continue the tutoring. Here is an opportunity for 7th and 8th grade students to tutor and help younger Saint Rose students with their basic studies.

After School Tutoring for grades K-6
Saint Rose and SJJA 7th and 8th grade students will volunteer to tutor Saint Rose students in grades K-6 after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:15. Students will need to be picked up by 4:15 or attend after care. This is a great opportunity for free tutoring for our students. Spaces will be limited. The tutoring will take place in the school office.

FAMILY SERVICE EVENT
Heartbeat of Toledo is a non-profit organization that assists women and men in their choice for life -- the choice to continue a pregnancy and give birth to a child. On the weekends of Feb. 16-17 and March 2-3, Saint Rose Parish will participate in a "Change for Life" baby bottle campaign to encourage donations to support their vital mission.

If you plan to Coach, please have the parent that plans to coach be the MAIN user on the family account. ONLY create ONE account per household. Please make your username the same as your name.
If you have multiple children to register, you will do so by adding "Participants" to your account.
