Upcoming Community & arcBARKS Events / Resources
Sherlock 5K Dogwalk
Location: 5034 Peters Creek Pkwy, Winston-Salem, NC 27127

Date: Saturday, September 23rd, 10am-2pm

arcBARKS will be one of the vendors at this exciting event! Any bakers interested in participating with staff should contact Don or Jessica. It will be a fun event where we talk to customers about our program, sell treats & pass out samples!

GSAG Golf Tournament
Location: Gillespie Golf Course [306 E Florida St, Greensboro, 27406]

Date: Saturday, September 30th, 8:30am-2pm

Greensboro Walk for Autism
Location:  415 Jaycee Par k [ 3802 Jaycee Park Drive, Greensboro, 27455 ]

Date: Saturday, September 30th at 9am

You can make a difference in the lives of children with autism and their families by registering for the Greensboro Run/Walk for Autism. Registration is $25, but you can make an even bigger impact by recruiting family members, friends, and co-workers to form a team and raise donations.

Down Syndrome Network Buddy Walk

Location: Keeley Park [ 4100 Keeley Rd. McLeansville, 27301 ]

Time: Walk begins at 1pm

Gather your friends and family and start your team to make a difference in the lives of those with Down Syndrome and their families. At 10:30, the entertainment begins with face painters, bounce houses, a photo booth, music, and more. At 1pm there will be a walk around the park.

HORSEPOWER’s mission is to promote and enhance the welfare of individuals with disabilities by providing a program of therapeutic, educational and recreational value, and further, to empower individuals who are intellectually, physically, emotionally and/or socially challenged through the use of horses, while providing therapeutic benefits in a safe and controlled atmosphere.

Monthly Parent Support Groups for Parents of Children with Special Needs

When we are faced with a child's disability, it's easy to feel overwhelmed, isolated, and alone. The Family Support Network of Central Carolina offers a range of FREE parent support groups to offer parents an understanding and caring community . Adult Retreat Camp at Camp Royall

Independent adults, 18 and older with high-functioning autism, are invited to spend time at Camp Royall with friends!

Location: 250 Bill Ash Road, Moncure, NC 27559

Dates: September 24-29 (week-long) /
November 3-5 / December 1-3

UNCG Beyond Academics

The Beyond Academics Program at UNCG is now accepting applications for the Fall 2018 semester.

The program supports students with  intellectual and developmental disabilities  through a  Comprehensive Transition Program (CTP)  while enrolled in Integrative Community Studies, a four-year certificate program of study that emphasizes higher education, self-determination, community inclusion, career development, and independent living. 

arcBARKS Program Holiday Schedule

ArcBARKS typically follows the yearly holiday schedule of The Arc of Greensboro. Please note we will be closed on the following dates. Feel free to contact Jessica or Don if you have any questions. 

  • Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 23rd)
  • Day After Thanksgiving ( Friday, November 24th)
  • Christmas Eve (Sunday, December 24) - Will be observed on Tuesday, Dec. 26th since the 24th is on a Sunday this year.
  • Christmas Day (Monday, December 25)
  • New Year's Day (Monday, January 1st)
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (Monday, January 15th)

arcBARKS Program Developments
The Arc of Greensboro created a video earlier this year that is a great representation of a typical day at arcBARKS. Check out the video and please feel free to share it with friends, family and others in the community!  
Enrollment Update
  • There are currently 16 bakers enrolled in our program across 34 slots throughout the week. The program is at 85% capacity.

  • We currently have open enrollment slots on Thursdays & Fridays. If you know of anyone who may be interested in applying to the program, please let Jessica know.
Individual Parent Meetings
Now that school is back in session and we just began a new fiscal year, we wanted to create an opportunity for you to meet with Don & Jessica in order to touch base, ask questions, provide feedback, and review your baker's progress in the program. This of course, is optional, but if you would like to schedule a meeting with us, we have created a sign-up on this WEBSITE with daily time slots throughout the month of September. If you are not available to meet during one of the listed time slots, please let us know and we will coordinate an alternate time. We really appreciate your feedback and are looking forward to meeting with you!

We're always looking for new ways to adapt our program in order to assist our bakers in learning new skills and gaining independence. Here is one of our recent modifications:
