Our first fundraising campaign to reclaim the beautiful landscape that once graced the Oakridge Estate is headed towards success. Thanks to the generosity of San Fernando Valley residents, pledges from several local Neighborhood Councils, and the friends and family of Barbara Stanwyck, we are over 50% towards our goal to Help Bring the Oaks Back to Oakridge!
Friends of Oakridge was formed to preserve and promote the Oakridge Estate after the historic-cultural landmark was purchased in 2009 by the City of Los Angeles. Soon after, the question became: How should Friends effectively share the diverse and fascinating story of the mysterious structure at the top of the knoll hidden behind large pine trees and overgrown bushes? For decades thousands of Valley residents traveling east and west on Devonshire Street were curious and wondered . . . what lies at the end of the winding driveway behind the spiked, wooden gate with a No Trespassing sign?
Barbara Stanwyck's rise to prominence as an actor had nothing to do with luck and everything to do with hard work and determination. In belated honor of St. Patrick's Day, we explore a few of the Irish influences in Stanwyck's life - some lucky, some not.
