Preschool Five Day
Winter was swirling around us during the month of February - snow, sleet, freezing rain. It's hard to believe spring is around the corner. We spent a lot of time inside learning, creating, socializing and dreaming of the future.
Word Time: We finished the chapter - Earth and started the chapter - Play. Children learn the pronunciation, spelling, and definition of words in those categories.
Penmanship: Students used their Letters and Numbers for Me books to continue practicing the lowercase letters. They also starting writing words and sentences. They've come so far since the beginning of the school year.
Math: We continue our chapter on Geometry. Using Play Doh, children match objects to impressions by noticing shape, size, and orientation. The children used the Mix and Make Shapes to recognize similar shapes of different sizes. Children use 4 Squares More Squares to turn and flip shapes to build puzzles. They identify and describe circles and build circles using half circles and quarter circles. They completed their I Know My Numbers #6 booklets and #7 booklets.
Language and Literacy: We continued the chapter - Comprehension. The students learn to identify the main character and the setting of a story. They describe the problem and solution of a story. Using the Feeling Faces cutouts, students detect the feelings of characters of a story. We identify parts of a story that are real and make-believe. Children make personal connections with stories.
PATHS: We continue discussing different feelings/emotions with the help of the PATHS animals, photographs, and drawings. We provide examples of reasons for feeling calm or relaxed. We also discussed the concepts of sharing and caring about others.
Chapel: The students enjoy their time with Father Rick on Wednesdays. He reads a bible story, sings songs, and prays with us - thank you, Father Rick.
We celebrated Black History Month by making an Amistad Friendship Chain and President's Day by making log cabins. Valentine's Day we made a friendship salad to remember the people we love. Dr. Chung stopped by from Alpha and Omega Dental to give all the children a presentation on good dental hygiene.
We thank you, Lord, for family, friends, and the many opportunities you have given us.
