WORLD FOOD DAY: Let's EAT... and drink and sing and FEED the Hungry!

A Note From Pastor Linda

Dear Friends in Christ~

Did you know that October 16 is World Food Day? An opportunity to consider that many in our community, our state, in the world are NOT food secure. After a period of decline, world hunger is on the rise again. According to the latest 2018 Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), over 820 million people are suffering chronic undernourishment. FAO has launched a global call to accelerate action for ZERO HUNGER by 2030. FAO states:

Zero Hunger means working together to ensure everyone, everywhere, has access to the safe, healthy and nutritious food they need. To achieve it, we must adopt a more sustainable lifestyle, work with others, share our knowledge and be willing to help change the world- for the better.

Hosanna is a vital partner in feeding our community and our world. Here are some FUN(d) ways that you can get involved:
  • Beer and Hymns- this Sunday, October 21 at 7pm at Stella's Grille on 97. Buy at ticket here: https://www.hosannaforestlake.net/beer-hymns/ Your $10 ticket will provide for 40+ FMSC meals! You can also purchase a ticket at the door for $15 (60+meals). It's FUN! It's Community! It's FAITH!! Led by Charlie O and the Hosanna worship team. FMSC's mission is to work themselves out of a job! One of their favorite sayings is: Until all are fed. This mission fully supports Zero Hunger by 2030 in tangible ways- staying in communities and partnering with locals on the ground to get food into places that are not reachable by conventional means.
  • Youth SLEEPOUT! Homelessness and Food Insecurity Awareness: Experiential Lock Out- November 3-4 at Hosanna. Find out more here- and register: https://www.hosannaforestlake.net/sleepout/
  • Rangers Supporting Rangers Food Collection- NOW through November 18. Pick up quick and easy cook/eat items such as: cereal bars, individual cereals, pop tarts, individual oatmeal, easy open cans of fruit and veggies, soup, meal cups- then bring them to Hosanna!   For every pound of food up to 200 pounds Hosanna will donate $1 out of the Grace Fund to support this vital community mission and ministry partner. Donation bags are available at Hosanna- or use your own bag!!
  • Woodbury Chorus and Orchestra Food Concert- Songs of HOPE: Sunday, November 18, 2018 at 4pm at Hosanna. 100% of a free-will offering at this free concert will benefit Rangers Supporting Rangers food support program.

Why would we do something like this? Because the BIBLE and Jesus tells us to:
  • Matthew 25: For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me... ~Jesus
  • Proverbs 28: Whoever gives to the poor will not want, but he who hides his eyes will get many a curse.
  • Luke 3: Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise. ~Jesus
  • Galatians 6: Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
  • Proverbs 21: Whoever closes their ear to the cry of the poor will themselves call out and not be answered.
  • 1 John 3: But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother or sister in need, yet closes their heart against them, how does God's love abide in them?
  • Luke 6: Give, and it will be given to you. ~Jesus

Together we can make a difference! Let's do this HOSANNA!

 ~Pastor Linda

Got Questions? Get Answers.
Fall Sunday Series

Everyone has questions.  Young children ask "why?"  Teenagers ask "why not?"  Adults question "what if?"  Do you have questions about God, Jesus, the Bible?  Do you have questions about life?  Do you have questions for God about life?  Every day, more and more people are going to Siri or Alexa or Google to find answers to their questions about and for God.  I have a better idea:  Come to Hosanna to "get answers."

An unforgettable, haunting story of a terrible injustice that was done to a black man from Alabama, Ray Hinton. In 1985 Anthony Ray Hinton was convicted of a crime he didn't commit and sentenced to die by execution. Ray spent nearly thirty years on death row before the state of Alabama admitted that they had made a mistake, and set him free.

Who: Students Grades 7- Adult (Others welcome, kids Grade 6 and under can stay with an adult until 10:30 pm.)

There is NO COST to participate, but pre-registration is required. On the night of the event, participants must check in by 6:30 pm at Hosanna (front lawn).

This is an experiential educational event, participants will be experiencing one night without a home. Although it doesn't begin to touch the realities many face however, it does allow us to acknowledge the problem (homelessness, food insecurity, lack of affordable housing, livable wages, etc.), think about how we might be a part of a solution and develop a deeper sense of Gratitude. Giving even one night will make a difference.
