Associate Professor Yvonnes Chen
was one of the three panel speakers on

assessing capstone courses and experiences

at the fifth annual student learning symposium on Feb. 22. The session had at least 40 participants in attendance. Chen showcased students
’
award-winning plansbook and discussed how KU Core 6 guidelines, client feedback and course learning objectives and rubrics inform the assessment and revisions of classes in the strategic communication sequence.
Steve Rottinghaus
, career and outreach coordinator, will participate in a panel discussion titled “Create A PR Talent Pipeline” on Feb. 26 at a Kansas Public Relations Society of America event in Wichita. Discussion will include developing organizational support, marketing internships, identifying outcomes and writing an effective internship job description.

was quoted in an Inside Higher Ed story about closings of small schools, especially HBCUs and how it is not necessarily a boon for bigger schools.

|
A group of nine students produced a live-stream broadcast of the annual KU Hockey Border Showdown last Thursday from the Silverstein Eye Center Arena in Independence, Missouri.

Clarence Dennis
was still looking for a job when he graduated from the J-School last May. A couple of months later, he moved to California to start work as a staff writer for the Los Angeles Rams. Next thing you know, he found himself in Atlanta covering the Super Bowl.

J-School Career Fair is March 7
|
|
The Spring Journalism Career Fair is set for March 7 in the Kansas Room of the Kansas Union from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. During the event, a photographer will take professional images for students’ LinkedIn profiles.
The J-School Career and Outreach Office will host a career fair preparation workshop for students at 3 p.m. Feb. 27, in the Clarkson Gallery. Topics include refining your list of potential job targets, how to research employers attending the fair, preparing a brief speech focusing on your skills, and what to bring and wear to the career fair. The J-School is holding a competition for students to submit photos and videos representing the subject diversity and you. Entrants have a wide latitude to express their views as it affects them and others. First-place winner will receive $400; second place is $200; third place is $100. Deadline is Friday, March 8.
