Maximizing the academic, social, and emotional potential of each student.

Dear Friend of CCSD93,
Staying on the Forefront of Personalization with ICE
This week, I joined CCSD93 Instructional Coaches, as well as additional district leaders, at the Illinois Computing Educators (ICE) Conference in Schaumburg. Attending is a terrific way to keep an eye on the emerging educational strategies, resources and tools that will help us to further provide personalized instruction to our students. At this year's conference I was struck by how many of the resources being shared have been strategically employed by CCSD93 teachers for years. It's a testament to our staff's adaptability and dedication to providing each student an individualized, relevant education.
CCSD93's Coding class Teachers Lisa Thomen and Kevin McCann presented a breakout session about teaching coding using the Swift platform, and they brought several of their students with them to share what they've learned and give attendees a hands-on coding experience. It was awesome to see our kids teach teachers coding skills. Congratulations to Lisa, Kevin, and their students! Here are a few photos.
Congratulations Assistant Principal Allison Moe for Being Named Junior Achievement DuPage Middle School Educator of the Year!
Congratulations to current Stratford and former Jay Stream Middle School Assistant Principal Allison Moe for being named the Junior Achievement DuPage Middle School Educator of the Year! Ms. Moe earned the award for her commitment to organizing and coordinating the career and college days that our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students participate in at both middle schools. She was honored last night at the Junior Achievement annual fundraiser.

In addition to the honor, we recently highlighted Ms. Moe for our CCSD93 in 93 Seconds series. Watch the video below to learn a little bit more about her, including the variety of responsibilities her job entails, her idea of an ideal vacation, her favorite band, and her favorite memories from CCSD93 by watching the latest CCSD93 in 93 Seconds here!
Roy DeShane Students Present at County-Wide Fundraiser
Speaking of the Junior Achievement annual fundraiser, 3rd grade students from Roy DeShane School presented at the event about their experiences with Junior Achievement, an organization that brings programs to schools that help young students learn financial literacy and inspires and prepares them to succeed in a global economy. As you can see above, I had the pleasure of introducing our students who did a terrific job of relaying what they've learned.
CCSD93 Student Musicians
Excel at State-Run Contest
Last Saturday, advanced music students from Jay Stream and Stratford's bands, orchestras, and choirs competed in the Illinois Grade School Music Association (IGSMA) Solo and Ensemble Contest at Glenside Middle School. To prepare, participating students selected and practiced their music, ultimately playing solo, duet, or trio performances for contest judges.

In total, our middle school students accumulated 195 medals, with 24 students across 15 performances earning perfect scores! I commend these students' talent and dedication.

Congratulations to all of our participating student musicians for committing so much personal time to practicing for and taking part in the contest, and to our music directors for guiding them along the way.
CCSD93 Band Students Get Glimpses of Their Futures During Glenbard Field Trip
On Tuesday, all CCSD93 5th-8th grade Band students attended a concert put on by Glenbard North's Band at the high school. It was a terrific opportunity for them to see what their hard work and perseverance can lead to: a high level of musicianship under the bright lights of a professional stage!
Please Don't Idle Your Vehicle in School Zones: #TurnItOff
As a school district, student health and safety is our primary concern. We want our students to breathe healthy air, so we ask parents to be sure not to idle cars when waiting to pick up students after school. I know it's difficult when it's cold outside, but research has shown a correlation between air pollution and respiratory problems in children. All of our schools have "No-Idle Zone" street signs posted nearby to remind parents,

Did you know:
  • Children have an increased risk of developing asthma and other respiratory problems when exposed to toxins from car emissions?
  • Ten seconds of idling wastes more fuel than restarting?
Find out more facts about idling in this video featuring current and former CCSD93 students:
