MCBOE Recognizes Mr. Phil Walker for his 20 Years on the Monroe County Board of Education

MCBOE member Mr. Phil Walker was recognized at the December Board of Education meeting. Mr. Walker served for twenty years as a Board of Education member. His family represented him as he was recognized for his service. Thank you to Mr. Walker and family for dedication, service, and support of Monroe County Schools. Mr. Walker was presented the plaque pictured at right. Members of the Walker Family are pictured with Assistant Superintendent Jackson Daniel, MCBOE Chairman Nolen Howard, Assistant Superintendent Alicia Elder, and Superintendent Dr. Mike Hickman.

MCBOE Recognizes HES Staff and Students

Samuel E. Hubbard Elementary staff members were recognized for years of service to Monroe County Schools. Five years: Alexandra Lamping, Natalie Parham, Brittany Pate. Ten years: Sheila Cox, Rebecca Jones, Dr. MeQuanta McCord, Britt Thomason. Fifteen years: Heidi Edge, Andrea Norman. Twenty years: Michelle Major, Mary Johnson. 25 years: Rebecca Cawthon, Merrie Johnson.
HES Safety Patrol members were recognized. SHESStudents for outstanding morning safety patrol service: Autumn Smith, Addy Shearer, Angel Washington, Rachel Sosebee, Cayden Burnette, Lindsey Anderson, Sam Harrell, Thomas Ross, Nefertiri Brown, Connor Yates, Quanterrious Brown, Nicole Dawson.
HES staff members were recognized for outstanding presentations and representation at the State STEM/STEAM Forum. They are: Kera Davis, Kathleen Bunn, Natalie Parham, Alexandra Lamping, Dr. Donna Ayers, Marnai Boose, Stephanie Steed, Ronna DeMichiel. MCAC Students and Staff Recognized

Monroe County Achievement Center students and staff were recognized at the December Board of Education meeting. The 12 for Life participants are students who are employed by the Department of Corrections as a work-based learning experience. Those students are:
Jordan Barberich and Maggie Cooper. MCAC staff member Lisa Lee was recognized for a recent literacy grant award benefitting MCAC students.
MCAC staff members were recognized for their years of service to Monroe County Schools. Danita Harvey and Rhonda Myrick were recognized for twenty years of service. Randall Bigham was recognized for ten years of service. MCAC staff and students are pictured with MCBOE Chairman Nolen Howard, MCAC Principal Grady Caldwell, and Superintendent Dr. Mike Hickman.

MCMS Robotics Team: Lego League Grand Champions at Saturday's Competition

Congratulations to the Monroe County Middle School Robotics Team! After scores were tallied and corrected on Saturday, they were announced as
Grand Champions for Regional First Lego League Robotics Competition held at Middle Georgia State University.
Congratulations to the TG Scott Robotics Team! They scored
best overall in Core Values at the First Lego League competition at Middle Georgia State University.
Congratulations to all of our students who competed at Saturday's robotics competition. Thank you to coaches, staff members, parents, and volunteers who make our robotics program the successful experience it is for our students.

MP Chorus Opens for Renowned Vocal Group

Mary Persons students got the unique learning and performance opportunities to open for Voctave, the internationally renowned singing group on Saturday evening. The event at the Monroe County Fine Arts Center drew fans from across the country to see the Orlando-based group. Before the performance, students were able to have a vocal workshop with Voctave members.

Many of Monroe County Schools' students will receive a tablet or smartphone over the holidays. Through Overdrive, Monroe County Schools provides access to 1000s of ebooks and audiobooks for free. Students can download the FREE Overdrive/Sora app or they can read/listen to books for FREE through their internet browser of choice.
