San Francisco 49ers 26 vs. Seattle Seahawks 23, OT
Led by undrafted quarterback
Nick Mullens, the San Francisco 49ers (4-10) handed the Seahawks (8-6) an overtime loss, 26-23, on a rainy afternoon. Despite the weather, Mullens threw for 275 yards (20/29), one touchdown, no interceptions and earned a rating of 110.6. Mullens is projected to start on Sunday against the Chicago Bears at Levi's Stadium at 1:05 p.m.

After Seattle scored
an early touchdown to jump ahead,
Richie James Jr.
(above) returned the ensuing kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown and provided an enormous swing for the 49ers, who suddenly had a 7-6 lead. (Seattle placekicker Sebastian Janikowski had missed the extra point of their prior touchdown.)

San Francisco tight end G
eorge Kittle has emerged as the team's most valuable offensive player, with his Pro Bowl-caliber season.
While limited to just three catches, good for 51 yards, he was an effective decoy, pulling with him two Seattle defenders.

Seattle's Pro Bowl wide receiver Doug Baldwin caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Russell Wilson in the first quarter, to stake the Seahawks to a short-lived 6-0 lead.

Mr. Elusive, Seattle's gifted quarterback
Russell Wilson is a master of the broken play but was uncharacteristically sacked three times, twice by standout defensive tackle DeForest Buckner.

Cal Bears 67 vs. Cal Poly Mustangs 66
Scoring all ten of his points in the second-half, Cal's Paris Austin sinks a basket in the final 3.8 seconds for the lead and a one point win, as the California Golden Bears (4-5) turned away the visiting Cal Poly Mustangs, 67-66, at Haas Pavilion on Saturday, Dec. 15.
|
Cal Poly's (3-6) 5'10" Donovan Fields (3, obscured), the game's leading scorer with 26 points, proved difficult to contain until sandwiched in by Cal's 6'8" Andre Kelly (22, left) and 7'3" Connor Vanover (23, center).
Caption and photo by Ron Sellers.
|
Coming in off the bench for 15 minutes of action, Cal's sophomore guard Juhwan Harris-Dyson (2) checked off most all the boxes, with four points on the night, going two-for-two from the free-throw line, two rebounds, one assist and one block. Above, Harris-Dyson goes up hard for a dunk, only to catch the ball against the rim.

The Bible told us it rained for 40 days and 40 nights until Noah's Ark came to rest on Mount Ararat. The NCAA went all biblical this year and created 40 days and nights for Bowls of Football -- OK, there are 41 but one is in Bermuda -- in the coming weeks, no matter what the weather.
Breaking News! There is no
Noah's Bagel Bowl.
I'm totally bowled over and confused. By the time the CFC (College Football Championship) is played at Levi's Stadium on January 7 we will have followed the Bowl road map throughout America.......and Bermuda. Incidentally the No. 1 Bowl of the Bowls does not have a corporate name. It's simply the
College Football Playoff National Championship
or
CFPNC
for short.
To help me better understand how millions of Americans will be spending hours of precious time over the next few weeks I put this complicated connectivity on my whiteboard connected by yards of thread.

Salesian-Richmond -- Basketball -- Senior
Angel Jackson, the 6-foot-5 inch USC-bound post is off to a great start for a Pride team ranked among the top five teams in NorCal. Jackson is averaging 19.5 points and 11.5 rebounds through Salesian's first four games. Her biggest scoring night came on Dec. 11 when she dropped 30 points along with eight rebounds in a 50-48 loss to fellow NorCal-power Carondelet of Concord. It was Salesian's first loss of the season. The Pride will take a 3-1 record to Phoenix for the Nike Tournament of Champions on Dec. 19-22. They will then return home and take part in the elite Platinum Division of the West Coast Jamboree. Photo credit: James K. Lease.

Sonoma Raceway -- Winter Jam hosts two days of Drifting Festival
Sonoma Raceway hosted Northern California's largest Drifting Festival
Winter Jam featured two full days of tire-melting action
SONOMA, Calif. -- Northern California's largest drifting festival returned to Sonoma Raceway for two days of high-speed action at Winter Jam, Dec. 15-16.
Winter Jam, hosted by Sonoma Drift, took over six different locations around the facility, including two courses in the main paddock and courses at Turns 2-4, Turn 7, through the Esses of Turn 8 and around the hairpin at Turn 11 of the 12-turn road course.
More than 300 drivers heated up the track during the weekend's event, which concluded the 2018 Sonoma Drift season. Drivers battled for points during several challenging competitions, including Saturday's Team Tandem competition at Turn 11, in which three drivers drifted side-by-side, coming within mere inches from the wall and each other. Sunday featured the fan-favorite Winter Jam competition located at Turn 7 in which the top 16 drivers competed for the
2018 Winter Jam crown.
A number of internationally acclaimed drifting professionals chased points at the event, including Ireland's Deane Kearney, Lithuania's Aurimas Bakchis, Washington's Dan Burkett, Michigan's Justin Pawlak and Hawaii's Forrest Wang. Local amateur drifters burned rubber alongside these professionals, in hopes of taking their driving to the next level.
Spectators enjoyed an autograph session with these professionals and other local stars in front of the John Cardinale Media Center. Saturday's entertainment also included musical performances by DJ Shortkut and DJ Apollo in Sunoco Victory Lane.
