Criminal Justice Project Launch video recording and materials available

The video recording, summary of comments and follow-up responses from the County's Criminal Justice System Assessment Project Launch and Community Meeting held on February 20, 2018 is now available.

Please save the date for the next community event, where we will present the data gathered during the assessment's initial phase. It will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2018 at the Benton County Historical Museum, 101 Main St, Philomath, OR 97370. Doors will open at 6:00pm and the program is anticipated to begin at 6:30pm.
Hayden Covered Bridge_ Alsea_ OR

The Hayden Covered Bridge near Alsea is 100 years old this year!

Alsea community members are having a Centennial Celebration with a party with music by The Barker Gypsies, dancing, art, photos and refreshments, at the Hayden Covered Bridge on May 5th from 1-5pm.  A shuttle service will be provided from the Alsea Community Library to the bridge.

Also an art exhibit will be on display during April and May 2018 at the Alsea Community Library, 19192 Alsea Hwy, Alsea, OR.  
Corvallis Benton County Economic Development Office Supports Willamette Innovators Network

The Willamette Innovators Network (WiN) develops and supports an entrepreneurial and innovation eco-system throughout the Southern Willamette Valley. The Corvallis Benton County Economic Development Office provides staff and promotional support for the WiN.

The April 10, 2018 WiN Pub Talk features "Shark Tank". Get involved in local business and see new and existing entrepreneurs fight for the chance to be the next big start-up! 

Attendees will listen to pitches and get advice on how to start a business, plus get to meet local business owners. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and limited to 100 attendees.

360 SW Avery Avenue_ Corvallis_ OR
Community Development Department returns to 360 SW Avery Avenue

On April 3, 2018 the Benton County Community Development Department returned to its permanent location at 360 SW Avery Avenue in Corvallis. The facility is shared with the Benton County Public Works Department and Natural Areas and Parks Department. 

The Community Development Department will be located on the first floor of the newly expanded and renovated building. 

Also on April 3rd, the entrance to the building returned to the north side of the building, facing Avery Avenue.

Non-lethal wildlife deterrent grant application deadline April 15; Workshop video recording available soon

The video recording from "Farming with Wildlife: Wildlife Friendly Methods to Reduce Conflicts" will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 will be available soon.

In addition to educational outreach and consulting, the Agricultural and Wildlife Protection Program (AWPP) provides a merit-based cost-share reimbursement grant program for non-lethal animal damage control to foster the coexistence of agriculture, livestock and 
wildlife in the County.

Grant applications are available online at  co.benton.or.us/awpp. The application period closes April 15, 2018. Grants will be awarded April 30, 2018.
53rd Street Health Services Center_ Corvallis_ OR
Selected health services temporarily relocate to 53rd St. Health Services Center

Tuesday, March 20, 2018, all dental services and selected mental health services provided at the Benton Health Center on 530 NW 27th Street temporarily moved to the 53rd Street Health Services Center to accommodate the renovation of the Benton Health Center.

Patients that do not have access to Ride Line or other public transit options may use a new 53rd Street Health Services Center shuttle service provided by the County. The service will shuttle patients between the Benton Health Center on 530 NW 27th Street and the 53rd Street Health Services Center at the Fairgrounds.

Benton County first in state health factor rankings

According to the annual Oregon County Health Rankings released March 14, 2018 by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, available at  www.countyhealthrankings.org , Benton County ranks second in overall health outcomes and first in overall health factors. Washington and Clackamas Counties were ranked first and third for overall health outcomes, and ranked second and third for overall health factors.
