The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides FREE tax preparation services for low to moderate income Montgomery County residents!

Most sources of financial aid require tax information from students and their families. Filing your taxes now will help you to be prepared for financial aid season in Fall 2019.

AMOUNT: Varies 
ELIGIBILITY: Grade 12; Submit short essay, transcript, and two letters of recommendation: one from a school administrator and one from a community member.

NAME: Legacy of Life Scholarship  
DUE DATE: March 31, 2019
AMOUNT:  $1,000 - $5,000
ELIGIBILITY: Grade 12; must be a legal resident of the DC Metro Area; requires a 1000-word persuasive essay about organ and tissue donation.  

NAME: The American Bar Association Law Day Art Contest
DUE DATE:  March 31, 2019
AMOUNT:  $750  
ELIGIBILITY:  Grades 9-12; create a two-dimensional art piece that highlights the theme "Free Speech, Free Press, Free Society"; submissions accepted from individuals and teams. 

NAME:  Central Scholarship
DUE DATE:  April 1, 2019
AMOUNT:  Up to $10,000
ELIGIBILITY: In grade 12, Maryland resident, minimum GPA of 2.0, family income is below $90,000 per year, or $66,000 for students pursuing career and tech training.  US citizen or a permanent resident

Kwame Amankwah-Ayeh


1. Where have you applied to college?
I applied to UMD, Indiana, Lafayette, Middlebury, Hamilton, Miami-Ohio, Alabama, Denison, Union, Dickinson, and Franklin & Marshall.

2. Why do you want to go to college?
I want to go to college because my mom was not able to but she always pushed me to strive higher. I want to be an example for her, my siblings, and other kids in my old neighborhood who feel that their future isn't bright.

3. What do you like most about CollegeTracks? 
I love everything about CollegeTracks! The supportive staff, learning new career paths from volunteers, the snacks, the open nature of the office (you can drop in at any time for anything), the messages that are sent about deadlines and the memes. 

4. Do you have any advice for the junior class?
My biggest advice for juniors is that you may not know where you want to go but start looking now and be open minded about your list. Do your essays, supplemental essays, resume, self reflection, and find your family's tax information early because deadlines creeps up on you.
