Fairfax County Adopts Key Elements of Sierra Club Energy and Climate Action Plan

We are pleased to inform you that the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved a Board Matter on February 5, 2019 that adopts virtually all of our 12-Point Action Plan's recommended actions and provides a road map for moving the county forward. In addition, County staff briefed the County’s Environmental Committee on February 12th on other key parts of this agenda.


However, funding of these action items is crucial, and we need the membership to be involved in the coming weeks to help deliver real progress.


C-PACE UPDATE

Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (C-PACE) is a financing program that allows improvements in energy efficiency, renewable energy and water conservation projects in the private and non-profit sectors .

Bowers and Limpert: Water Board Should Revoke MV Pipeline Certificate
The State Water Control Board announced Dec. 13 that they would reconsider rescinding the Water Quality Certificate (WQC) for the Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP). That was more than two months ago. The Board should promptly revoke the WQC.

EQAC Seeking Student Representative for Next Term
Fairfax County seeks a student member to serve on the Environmental Quality Advisory Council (EQAC) from July 2019 through June 2020.

Coal Ash Cleanup
January 24 - Governor Ralph Northam, Virginia House of Delegates Speaker Kirk Cox, and a bipartisan group of legislators today announced a historic agreement to clean up large coal ash ponds in Chesapeake City and the counties of Prince William, Chesterfield, and Fluvanna.

Nandina Berries Kill Birds
In April 2009 a flock of dead Cedar waxwings were found in a yard in Thomas County, Georgia. Examination showed they had gorged on Nandina berries. We need to remove these plants from our yards.

Native Seedling Sale

Great Falls Group Elections
The GFG Executive Committee (ExCom) had its elections of officers at the Jan ExCom meeting. We are very pleased that the existing members will continue to volunteer in their positions. The results are Chair - Norbert Pink, Co-Chair - Susan Weltz, Treasurer - Joe Apple, and Robin Olsen as secretary.
