A Note from Sally Sachar, Executive Director

Acts of Loving-Kindness
The self cannot truly be full without tending to the needs of others.
We live in relationship, not in isolation.
Our quest for kindness and love must extend beyond the walls of self
to the hearts and minds of others.
Give and you get the most fundamental way.

- Rabbi Karyn Kedar

Dear Congregants,

The end of 2018 presents an inspired time to take stock of how much meaning BJBE provides in our lives. In addition to being our religious community, BJBE is the focus of our activism, a place to love and savor music, our intellectual home, and our social hub as well. It is our family. We study the Torah together, we mourn the loss of those we love, we celebrate simchas. We play games, we dance, we debate, we help the hungry and the abused, we lend our voice to critical social issues. We pray, we march, we marvel, we munch.

As you ponder the meaning BJBE provides to YOU and YOUR LOVED ONES, we hope you will consider making a year-end gift to this wonderful congregation. We've outlined 3 ideas for you. Please learn about them here. And keep in mind, anyone who contributes $250 or more as a part of this campaign is invited to select a limited edition lithograph, serigraph or etching from an exquisite collection that was generously donated by one of our congregants. The collection includes images from the collection Picasso, as well as other works by well-known Jewish and Israeli artists such as David Azuz and Ovadia Alkara.  Contact Erica at 847.940.7575 for more information.

Enjoy the end of 2018. We will be back in this space on January 2, 2019. If you have ideas for that issue, please send them by December 28, 2018 to Dani.

All our best,

Sally Sachar

SOCIAL ACTION NETWORK

Magen David Adom is Israel's national ambulance, blood-services, and disaster-relief organization, serving as emergency medical first-responders for the state's 8.8 million people. MDA is the only organization mandated by the Israeli government to serve in this role, but it's not a government agency, so it relies on people like you for funding.
