Fourth Graders Celebrate Black History Month
Our 4th graders are creating Black History Month Google Slideshow presentations.
Each pair of students researched a famous person and created presentations including pictures, video-clips, and transitions.
First Graders Study Geology
First graders welcomed high school science teacher, Mr. Ulrich, into the classrooms to discuss and analyze various rock features with the students to conclude our Gelology domain in Listening and Learning. Students were asked to bring in a rock and Mr. Ulrich pointed out characteristics about each rock that made it unique. Students used this information to help them determine if it was igneous, metamorphic, or sedimentary.
Fifth Graders Learn About Freshwater
Fifth Graders have started their new Smithsonian Science Kit, How Can we Provide Freshwater to Those in Need?  Students are collaborating to create and test a water system that will move water a short distance.
Library News
The Parker library books are getting ready for their new homes. You will begin to see labels on the front cover of books with the name of their new library. Some books are also being discarded. These books have the barcode removed and a "discard" stamp on the front page of the book. These books are being put out for students and staff to keep for their own personal libraries. Enjoy!
Mrs. Snyder's Math Minute
Who doesn’t love Legos? Have you ever thought to use them in the context of fractions? When we add and subtract fractions, the reason we need a common denominator is because we need to make same sized pieces. In this example, the big, orange piece is representing 1 whole or 8/8. The green piece next to it is 4/8 (or ½) and the blue piece next to it is 2/8 (or ¼). We could add the green piece and the blue piece together by thinking about it like 4/8 + 2/8 to make 6/8 (or ¾). Legotastic!
