ANNOUNCEMENTS
Longtime anchor of ABC News' Nightline, Ted Koppel, will give Luther College's 2018 Roslien Distinguished Lecture "Science and Policy: Communication in the Twenty-First-Century World of Fake News," at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, in the Center for Faith and Life, Main Hall. A question and answer session will follow the lecture.

J-TERM IN GERMANY AND THE UNITED KINGDOM: The Paideia 450 course "Green Europe: Advanced Models of Sustainability" explores the state of the energy transition from fossil fuels to renewables in the two largest economies in Europe. Visit Berlin, London, and other amazing communities in Germany and the UK. An information meeting will be held from 9:40 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10, in Valders 375. Shuttle to the Mall of America on Saturday, April 14 departing the Dahl Centennial Union at 9:00 AM and departing the Mall of America at 6:00 PM to return to campus. Student Tickets are $15.00 and may be purchased through the Ticket Office

SAC Cinema presents Marshall The story of Thurgood Marshall, the crusading lawyer who would become the first African-American Supreme Court Justice, as he battles through one of his career-defining cases. Movie is Friday, April 13, 7 p.m. doors open and 7:30 p.m. movie starts, Valders 206. Free with CAF and $5 without. Free popcorn while supplies last! Co-sponsored with the Diversity Center.

Luther College alumna Nora Robinson, '08, will serve as the keynote speaker for the annual Don Kemp Memorial lecture at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, in Baker Commons. The lecture honors the life of Luther social work faculty member Don Kemp. Kemp served as the director of the social work program at Luther from 1978-97.
 
Preus Library's annual Nationa l Library Week book sale will be held from Monday, April 9 to Friday, April 13. Hundreds of hardcover and paperback  books will be available for purchase in the library. Prices will decline daily.  
  
Former Fulbright "Roving Scholar" Andy Meyer will present the Gjerset lecture at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, in the Center for Faith and Life, Recital Hall. The lecture, titled "The Milk Route and Other Habits of Mind," is open to the public with no charge for admission. In the 2015-16 school year, Meyer served as a Fulbright "Roving Scholar" in American Studies, in Norway.

The Luther College Department of Visual and Performing Arts will present the 2018 Senior Project Showcase at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 7 and 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 8, in Luther's Storre Theatre. The showcase features original works and presentations of research in a culmination of the senior theatre and dance majors' interests over the past year. 
 
Lab Orchestra, sponsored by FMEA, meets this Saturday, April 7, from 1-1:30pm in the Jenson Noble Orchestra Room! Come learn a string instrument of your choice (violin, viola, cello, bass), taught by a Lab Orchestra mentor. No experience is necessary and this event is open to students of all majors. Luther College's brass ensembles will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, in the Center for Faith and Life. The concert includes several stylistic forms, including jazz improvisation. Luther's brass ensembles include the Luther College Trumpet Ensemble, Trombone Choir, Tuba Euphonium Ensemble and the Horn Ensemble.

The Luther College Emeriti Colloquium will meet at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 12, in the Mott Room of Luther's Dahl Centennial Union for a presentation by Luther College Professor and Library Archivist Emeritus Duane Fenstermann. The presentation is titled "Huffman/Cameron Bibliographic Journey to the Frontier."

The Buried Above Ground documentary screening and discussion will be held April 12, 7:00-8:30 p.m. in Olin 102. The film features three powerful PTSD survivor's stories of trauma, survival, and recovery. Sponsored by Active Minds, Counseling Service, Social Work Dept., and Helping Services for Youth & Families.

Those Who Can Do Teach, a series of mixed-media works by Luther College recent alumni art educators, will be on display in the Preus Library April 12 through May 27. The artists involved include Micayla Irmiter, class of 2014; Jenna Darsee, Jenny Bonnell and Katie Mathis, class of 2015; Lars Johnson and Robin Schone Hengesteg, class of 2016; and Maxwell Green, class of 2017.






Internationally renowned artist Chris Kienke's exhibit "You Promised Me Poems," will be on display Tuesday, April 3, through Friday, April 27, in the Kristin Wigley-Fleming Fine Arts Gallery in Luther's Center for the Arts. There will be an artist's talk at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 26, in the CFA, Room 203, and a reception at 4 p.m. Friday, April 27, in the Kirstin Wigley-Fleming Fine Arts Gallery.

Larsen Hall-Center for Global Learning entrance -- Beginning Tuesday, April 3, the exterior door located on the west side of the building will be continuously locked similar to all other residence hall entrances. For those who need to access the Center for Global Learning or the Larsen 120 classroom, please have your Luther ID with you to use the card access system and enter the building. This step has been taken in order to improve security for residents living in Larsen Hall.
The Mountaintop, winner of the prestigious Olivier Award for Best New Play, is rife with humor and political jabs, while giving us a glimpse at the human side of Martin Luther King Jr. Hours after his famed final speech, punctuated by the immortal line, "I've been to the mountaintop," the celebrated Reverend reveals his hopes, regrets, and fears, creating a masterful bridge between mortality and immortality. Fifth Annual Faculty Research Symposium, Saturday, April 7 - Students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited. Sessions begin at 9:30 am with welcome, introductions, and coffee in Valders Concourse, with presentations continuing in concurrent sessions in Valders 206 and Valders 262.  Click here to see this year's schedule.

LIBRARY BOOKS ARE DUE! April 6 is the due date for books checked out from the Main Stacks by students on or before Wednesday, March 28. Books may be renewed once online or by bringing them in physically to the circulation desk if you have exceeded the renewal limit. The new due date is May 18, the last day of Spring term. Click on "Library Account" online and sign in with your NorseKey to see what you have checked out and when it is due.

The Student Research Symposium celebrates the vibrant intellectual life and learning at Luther. Students will share their research and creative work. This year's Symposium will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018. Classes are suspended for the day, to allow all community members to participate. The Symposium will highlight the best fruits of the scholarship, research, and creative activity of students from disciplines across the college.

Entrepreneurial Showcase and Erdman Award - The Economics, Accounting, and Management Department cordially invites a ll students  to the 32nd Annual Entrepreneurial Showcase, Erdman Award ceremony, and dinner. Keynote speaker Sarah (Ruble) Sladek '94 is the Founder and CEO of XYZ University, one of the nation's first generation-focused companies. Miko Peled, son of a famous Israeli General and the author of two books,
will speak on Friday, April 13 at 7 pm in the CRH.  After losing a niece to a Palestinian suicide bomber, Peled joined a group of bereaved families from both sides of the conflict, and became a critic of Israeli politics and an activist for Palestinian human rights. His talk is sponsored by the CEPE and the Coalition for Civil Freedoms. For information, contact [email protected]
 
College Dance Marathon will host its fifth annual Big Event 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday, April 7 in the Regents Center. Community hours, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. will include games, bouncy houses, face painting and a silent auction. Free will donations will be accepted.  
 
J-Term in Roatan: Information Session -- The island of Roatan, Honduras, is home to the world's second largest coral reef, the tourist industry it supports, and a long history of colonialism that has left the island with an ethnically-divided population, widespread poverty and environmental degradation. This course uses Roatan as a case study in ethical engagement in the developing world. Come and learn more about the course and its opportunities for you. Book Shop's 80th Birthday Party -- On Friday, April 6 stop in and party with the Book Shop Crew. The Book Shop is celebrating 80 years of serving Luther College and the community. Enjoy cake, and great in-store promos!

The Diversity Center will have a Decorah Walmart shopping shuttle running from 2:00-5:00 pm on SUNDAY, APRIL 8 .  This is open to all students and there is no charge, but reservations are requested, please register here. 

Try your hand at gardening this season! Whether you are a master gardener or beginner all students, staff and faculty of Luther College are welcome to rent a plot in the Community Garden. Full plots are 20'x20' and are $30. Half plots are 10'x20' and are $20. Student plots are 10'x10' and are $10. Payment is due by May 1, please send payment to Sarah Forsythe, Valders 372b. Luther College faculty and staff are eligible for a 50 percent reimbursement (up to $100) on Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares. Check out participating farms and sign up today to participate in the  Luther CSA Reimbursement Program ! The reimbursement will be handled through Payroll this year. This program is co-sponsored by the Health Care Fund, Wellness Program and Center for Sustainable Communities.


Classical MPR will host Bring the Sing
on Saturday, April 14 (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) -- an open choral event for voices of all abilities junior high level and above. The event will consist of a rehearsal and recording of several songs. Find information and registration at classicalmpr.org . Advanced registration is encouraged. Participants will be required to sign and submit a media release form due to audio and video recording taking place during the event.
