Thinking Andean Studies Conference
|
When: April 12-13, 2019
Where: Northwestern University, Greater Chicago area (Evanston, IL)
The Thinking Andean Studies conference continues its mission to strengthen the interdisciplinary network of scholars working in the growing field of Andean Studies, as well as to help foster a mentoring relationship between established and emerging scholars. The event aims to provide a space for participants to share their research through paper presentations and round table discussions, and hopes to showcase the increasing number of scholars in the US conducting research in and about the Andes. This year, we invite participants to reflect on how concepts such as coloniality and decolonization, indigeneity and race, politics and governance, exist as part of relationships of power in the region.

What challenges do DACA & undocumented students face nationwide? What are the financial, psychological, and educational repercussions of living with undocumented status? Job Posting: Massachusetts Language Acquisition Specialist - Foreign Languages - Educational Specialist
|
The Office of Language Acquisition (OLA) in the Center for Instructional Support at the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) provides leadership and support for the development of ELE programs. OLA provides technical assistance and professional development opportunities to increase the capacity of local education agencies (LEAs) to serve English learners (ELs) and students enrolled in foreign language programs. In addition, the office coordinates DESE EL and foreign language initiatives and policy development.
Required Qualifications:
- Degree in World Languages or Applied Linguistics
- At least three years of experience as a world language teacher or world language administrator in a PK-12 setting
- Ability to travel throughout the Commonwealth
First consideration will be given to those applicants who apply within the first 14 days.

New Area Studies Center Conference Grant Program Accepting Proposals
|
Deadline: January 15, 2019
The Ohio State University Area Studies Centers are accepting proposals from OSU faculty members for a new grant program, the OIA Area Studies Center Conference Grants. To further develop and enhance area studies research and dialogue at OSU, this grant competition seeks proposals focusing on the study of global issues from interdisciplinary, multi-regional perspectives. Funding will support a conference or a series of lectures that bring together area studies experts. To be eligible, the project must significantly address the regions of each Center contributing funding to this grant program. Accordingly, a minimum of 25% of the project should focus on Latin America, Russia/Eastern Europe, and East Asia respectively, for a minimum total of 75% of the content on these regions. Awards of up to $15,000 will be made for events taking place between August 15, 2019 and December 31, 2020. Brief pre-proposals are to be submitted online by January 15, 2019.

K-12 Global Fellowship Program
|
Join the Area Studies Centers from the The Ohio State University's Office of International Affairs for a four-part Minority Issues Around the World Global Fellowship Program for K-12 teachers.
The K-12 Global Fellowship Program will engage K-12 teachers in a series of four guided readings, lectures, and group discussions over the course of the 2018-19 academic year. K-12 teachers will explore minority issues in
East Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East under the guidance of a regional expert. Teachers may opt to attend individual sessions, or the whole series. Each participant will receive a contact hour certificate for each session that they attend. Readings will be sent to registered participants two weeks prior to each discussion date below.
