Here's the latest news from St. Austin Catholic Parish!
San Antonio St. Closure
RESCHEDULED!
Will begin NEXT weekend, April 6-9

PLEASE NOTE: SAN ANTONIO ST. WILL NOT BE CLOSED THIS WEEKEND!

The following info from our email last week remains the same, but the dates have been pushed back one week.

Due to the erection of a crane at the corner of W. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. and San Antonio St. for the hotel construction site located there, San Antonio St. will be closed from MLK to the south end of St. Austin School on three weekends: April 6-9, April 13-16, April 20-23.

The closures are scheduled to begin on Friday evening and continue through the early hours of Monday morning each weekend. However, it is possible for the work to end at any time and the street closures to be cleared ahead of schedule, without notice.

Parking spaces will still be available behind the church (around the blacktop and under the gym) as usual. We do ask that, as a show of hospitality, if you have no mobility impairment, you consider leaving these space for our parishioners and guests who need closer parking. This area will only be accessible using the northbound alley immediately behind the church. Enter the alley from MLK, between Guadalupe St. and San Antonio St. (between Domino's and the hotel construction site).

Vehicle entrance and exit for our parking garage at 500 W. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. will be completely blocked on the San Antonio St. side during these street closures. Access will be limited to the west side, which is the alley entrance across from the fire station. Please note that this is a southbound alley that runs from 21 st St. to MLK. The parking garage entrance/exit is located at the north corner of the building, on the left, just before the traffic light at MLK.

Options to access the alley entrance:
  • From southbound Guadalupe St., turn right on 21st St., then left into the alley between San Antonio St. and Nueces St.
  • From MoPac or Lamar, take Windsor Rd./24th St. east to Nueces St. Turn right on Nueces St. Turn left on 21st St., then right into the alley between Nueces St. and San Antonio St.
  • From MLK Jr. Blvd., head north on Rio Grande St. Turn right on 21st St. Turn right into the alley between Nueces St. and San Antonio St.
  • From northbound on Guadalupe St., you may turn left on MLK and follow the directions above. We've also been told that the City is supposed "bag" the "No Left Turn" sign at 21st St., to allow left turns during the closure. Please follow all traffic signs and use caution making this unprotected left turn from Guadalupe St. onto 21st St., as it will be out of the norm for the regular traffic flow in this intersection. From 21st St., turn left into the alley between San Antonio St. and Nueces St.
After parking in the garage at MLK, pedestrians will still be able to exit on foot to the San Antonio St. sidewalk and walk north along San Antonio St. before crossing over to the blacktop as usual.

Construction detour signs will be in place to assist you with these routes. The parish will utilize extra signage and staffing to insure all parishioners and visitors will be able to find parking.

Thank you for your patience and flexibility during this busy time! Any updates will be posted on our website at www.staustin.org and our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/staustinparish/.
