On October 8, Junior Achievement celebrated JA Uncorked sponsors and event co-chairs at a soiree at Boca Raton Resort and Club's "the blue". With breathtaking views, the restaurant was a fascinating place to thank loyal JA Circle of Wise Women supporters, 2018 JA Uncorked Co-Chairs Katie Leibick, Summer Robertson and Dawn Stagliano, and to introduce the 2019 JA Uncorked co-chairs Sharon Gustafson-Florescue, Sharon Brooks and Susan Rindley-Devlin. It was hosted by Stacie Weisman.

The Circle of Wise Women, an affinity group of Junior Achievement's, is dedicated to helping our youth prepare for the future. They focus on advocating for JA programs and raising funds through their signature event JA Uncorked and donations for program scholarships. To date, the group has raised more than $3.75 million. JA Fellows is Creating Future Entrepreneurs

On Saturday, October 6, more than 100 high school students gathered at Nova Southeastern University for the annual JA Fellows Retreat. The students discovered more about what it takes to conceptualize, capitalize and manage their own small businesses.

Special thanks to the mentors and business professionals who presented and helped students learn more about communication, financial management, problem solving, collaboration and other skills they will use to be successful in the program and in the future. T hey were: Jordan Barrocas of Three Jerks Jerky ; Zach Morrison of Elite SEM ; Alexandra Llerena from Kellogg School of Management ; David Maymon of Advocate Home Care Services ; Peter Anderson of Raymond James; Bob Arroyo of Pollo Tropical ; Joe Schumacker of SpareZ Bowling; and Violet Lowrey from Keiser University. Also special thanks to NSU for hosting the retreat!

When asked what they enjoyed about the day, students said:

"The entrepreneurs giving advice and telling stories."  "The speakers because they provided us with a lot of key ideas that we have to think about while starting a business."  "Learning how to make my product the best it can be."  "The breakout sessions about management, finances and other topics were interesting."

Foundation Supports Summer Camps

Thanks to the Margaret McCartney & R. Parks Williams Foundation, eight full scholarships are already available for next summer's JA BizTown Camp! During the fun-filled weeks, campers develop entrepreneurial and work skills, learn about personal financial and business management and other life skills. They also participate in exciting camp activities and field trips to Broward College North Campus.
