Volunteer Opportunities with St. Johns County Boards and Committees 
The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners provides residents who have an interest in participating in their local government with a variety of board and commission opportunities. Depending on the board or commission, the volunteer positions consider and make recommendations regarding a myriad of topics including planning and zoning issues, development projects, the library, parks and recreation facilities and programs, and arts, culture, and tourism matters. 2018 Beach Driving Passes On Sale 
2018 St. Johns County Beach Driving Passes are now on sale for residents and visitors. St. Johns County resident passes are $50, non-resident passes are $100, and handicap passes are $40. Passes will be available during normal business hours at the following locations through March 1, 2018:
 
* Tax Collector's Main Office - 4030 Lewis Speedway.
* Tax Collector's DuPont Center - 6658 US1 South.
* Tax Collector's Julington Creek Office - 725 Flora Branch Blvd.
* Tax Collector's Ponte Vedra Office - 5430 Palm Valley Rd.
* St. Johns County Beach Services Office - 901 Pope Rd.
* St. Johns County Ocean and Fishing Pier Gift Shop - 350 A1A Blvd.
 
Residents must present a valid I.D. with a St. Johns County address or present proof of property tax payments in St. Johns County to purchase a resident pass. When requesting a handicap pass, a handicap hang-tag or proof of qualification must be presented. Disabled military are eligible for a free annual pass by presenting military I.D. or a letter from Veterans Affairs verifying 100% disabled status. Vehicles accessing the beach do not need a beach pass until March 1, 2018.

2018 St. Johns Reads Community-wide Reading Project Features
Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania
The St. Johns County Public Library System has announced Erik Larson's novel Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania as the featured book for the 2018 "St. Johns Reads" community-wide reading project. A variety of programs focusing on the book will be staged at all six St. Johns County library locations throughout the month of February, including food and art events, movies, and lectures.
 
Dead Wake is the concurrent story of the last voyage of the Lusitania and the German U-Boat that sunk the British liner. The sinking of the Lusitania is often cited as one of the reasons the United States finally entered World War I. Adopt a Pet from the St. Johns County Pet Center 
Thinking about adopting a four-legged friend? Let the St. Johns County Pet Center, 130 North Stratton Road, help you find your next furry friend! Kittens, cats, puppies, and dogs are eagerly waiting to be adopted and become part of your family. All pets are micro-chipped and spayed/neutered, and families are invited to interact with potential pets to determine compatibility. The Pet Center is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. St. Johns County UF/IFAS Florida-Friendly Friday Workshops 
 
The St. Johns County UF/IFAS Extension is offering a series of Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ (FFL) workshops to provide in-depth training on the nine principles of FFL at the St. Johns County Wind Mitigation Building, 3111 Agricultural Center Drive. Workshops cost $10 per person and pre-registration is required as space is limited. For dates, times, and registration links, please see the list below. Join SJC and the Easter Bunny for Free Easter Egg Hunts
St. Johns County Parks and Recreation is hosting free Easter Egg Hunts at multiple park locations on Thursday, March 29 and Saturday, March 31. Children eight years old and younger are invited to participate at the following parks:

Veterans Park, 1332 Veterans Parkway, St. Johns
Palencia Park, 405 Palencia Village Dr., St. Augustine
 
Saturday, March 31 at 11 a.m.­

St. Johns County offers ACA Kayak Quickstart Courses 
St. Johns County is partnering with the American Canoe Association (ACA) to host two Kayak Quickstart Courses from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 12 and Thursday, March 22 at Trout Creek Park, 6795 Collier Road. Taught by Level 2 Certified ACA instructors, the course will focus on the fundamentals of kayaking including kayak designs, trip planning, and water safety. Participants will also have an opportunity to learn and practice basic paddle strokes and rescue techniques. The cost is $80 per person. Participants may provide their own kayaks, paddles, and life vests, or rent equipment for free. Pre-registration is required as space is limited. Mickler's Landing Beachfront Park Temporary Closures
The Mickler's Landing Beachfront Park, including the parking lot, beach access, and all related facilities, will experience intermittent, temporary closures through spring 2018 while the site is utilized as a staging area for beach restoration associated with Hurricane Irma. Visitors are encouraged to exercise caution when visiting Mickler's Landing Beach during this time as heavy equipment will be present on the beach until restoration efforts are complete. Pope Road Beach Access Closure due to Renourishment Project
The St. Augustine Beach Pope Road beach access point will be closed through spring 2018 due to an Army Corps of Engineers beach renourishment project. The beach access point will remain a staging area for equipment throughout the project. This project will renourish critically-eroded shoreline between Anastasia State Park and 8th Street in St. Augustine Beach. The beach will remain open outside of work areas, however, residents and visitors are encouraged to exercise caution when visiting during this time. St. Johns County Holiday Hours
Presidents' Day - February 19
All departments of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners, St. Johns County Administrative offices, library branches, and the Pet Center will be closed Monday, February 19 in observance of Presidents' Day. All offices and branches will resume standard business hours on Tuesday, February 20.

Garbage, recycling, and yard debris collection schedules will not be affected. The Tillman Ridge and Stratton Road solid waste scale houses will remain open on the holiday during standard business hours.
 
Good Friday - March 30 
All departments of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners, St. Johns County Administrative offices, library branches, and the Pet Center will be closed Friday, March 30 in observance of Good Friday. All library branches and the Pet Center will reopen on Saturday, March 31. All other offices will resume standard business hours on Monday, April 2.
 
Garbage, recycling, and yard debris collection schedules will not be affected. The Tillman Ridge and Stratton Road solid waste scale houses will remain open on the holiday during standard business hours.
