PAIR joins new UNHCR Initiative

At the invitation of the UN Refugee Agency, PAIR has joined a coalition of more than 300 diverse organizations with a shared commitment to refugees to promote the new #WithRefugees campaign.

The campaign helps spread the message of solidarity with refugees and invites individuals to sign the #WithRefugees petition and raise awareness through the #WithRefugees World Tour. The petition asks leaders to ensure that every refugee child gets an education, that every refugee family has somewhere safe to live and that every refugee can work or learn new skills to support their families.

The World Tour is made up of several public events to raise awareness and inspire action for people who have been forced to flee their home country due to conflict or persecution. The World Tour kicks off today in Jordan's Za'atari, refugee camp with a sports workshop and will run through October 1st. Other events during the tour will include a fashion show in Chicago featuring fabrics made by refugees in Kenya, a refugee football match in Ireland, a photo exhibit in Paris, a week of events on Jeju Island, South Korea and judo competitions and workshops in South Africa. On October 1st, the World Tour will end at the UNHCR's Nansen Refugee Award Ceremony in Geneva.

Today, when more than 60 million children, women, and men have been forced to flee their homes, you can become part of the global movement to make life-changing improvements in their lives. Sign the petition. And follow the campaign on Twitter.

Scholars Lend a Hand at Westbury Community Garden

PAIR students from Westbury, Wisdom, and Wheatley high schools spent Saturday morning on March 24th doing community service at Westbury Community Garden. Students weeded the orchard and butterfly garden, cleaned flower beds for planting, and planted vegetables for harvest next fall. Students in our Global Scholars program learned about gardening and were happy to collaborate with each other on this worthwhile project. Volunteering helps PAIR students develop leadership skills, enhance their college applications, and above all, feel connected to their community!
