"The Life in Our Years"
An important part of the human journey is aging. It's an important consideration at every stage of our lives because we are always in the process. Not the least of what we deal with is the spiritual challenge of embracing purpose and meaning in our later years, a challenge not made easier by a seriously youth oriented culture. How can we find the "life in our years" in the third stage of life? How can all of us, regardless of our ages, value every stage of this process?

Strong Is What We Make Each Other

Erika Reif, Family Ministry Assistant
Calling All Actors, Set-builders, and Stagehands: Here is your opportunity to shine!
Family Ministry is staging yet another wonderful multi-gen performance and we need you!!
Adults, youth, and children, all are welcome!
In this story, Monkey and Hare work themselves into a disagreement by blustering through misunderstanding instead of sharing what's in their hearts. Hare offers Monkey a sassy challenge, and then he gets stumped as to how to win it. In this worship service, we sing, drum, and hear the story about Monkey and Hare's contest to build the best hut. The lesson is that living together in community is the greatest gift we have to give and receive. This service is adapted from the story "Hare's Gifts" by Rev. Ken Collier.
The play will be staged at both services on March 10; dress rehearsal for all actors will be on March 9 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
Sets will be designed/painted during the Family Ministry Programming time this Sunday, March 3. Attention: Adult and YUUth helpers are necessary to complete this task! Please join us after Family Chapel to help bring the sets together!

March Madness Game Night
|
|
Erika Reif, Family Ministry Assistant
We had a great time in February, so we're trying it again...
Come join UU families and friends for our Groundhog Day
Game
Night
!
We will have some games at the ready and you are welcome to bring a favorite, as well. And because any gathering is more fun with food, we're having a potluck too, so bring a dish to share (skip the plates and utensils-we've got that covered!)
Come for a little bit or the whole time; bring all your ages (and your inner child, too) and play an old favorite or learn a new game (10-handed solitaire anyone?) We look forward to having you join us!
We'll have childcare available in the nursery for the littlest, with some kids'
games
available if they choose.
Mark your calendar: Saturday, March 2 from 5-8 p.m. in the Community Room.

8th Grade OWL Facilitators Needed
|
|
Erika Reif, Family Ministry Assistant
Our 8th Grade OWL program has been a great success this year, thanks to the dedication of our volunteer facilitators. We need more trained individuals to continue to offer this valuable service to our community!
Here is an opportunity to make a real difference, by helping us provide comprehensive sexuality education, not just to the youth of our congregation, but to some of their classmates as well.
Consider becoming a trained 7-9th Grade OWL Facilitator, by attending a weekend training in Auburndale, Massachusetts on May 3-5. (Please note, OWL Facilitators are required to be 25 years of age or older.) FUUSB will cover the fees, which include room and board, for incoming members of our OWL team.
Spots fill up fast, so contact Andrea at
[email protected] or 862-5630 X 28, as soon as possible for more information about our OWL program. More information on the facilitator training can be found here.

Afterword from Sunday 2/24, "Welcoming Spirit" |
|
Rev. Andre Mol
During our service on Sunday we explored and celebrated LGBTQ+ experiences in our
congregation and our community, and
we considered what it would mean to deepen our welcoming at FUUSB.
Together, we also
created a mosaic at the front of the sanctuary. The
pictures above show the gra
dual building of that mosaic from the bare
table before the 9:00 service all the way to the vibrant collection of stones, hearts, shells, beads, feathers, puffballs, cats, dogs, unicorns, and llamas by the end of the 11:00 service. Take a few moments to enjoy the playful collection of colors and shapes brought together by our congregation.
As I said on Sunday, we come together in ritual to create art to remind ourselves of the sacred beauty we co-create together, piece by piece through each of our personal unique contributions; to remind us of the joy and wonder and surprise that such collective action brings; and to remind us that the collective work of shaping each other and creating the world we dream about is ongoing.
Some of the powerful readings we offered are available online and can be found through the following links:
Finally, if you have not already seen it, the TRUUsT report on the experience of trans UUs can be found
here. Announcements will follow in the coming weeks about the Transgender Inclusion in Congregations program, which will be offered this spring at FUUSB.

UUA General Assembly: The Power of We
|
|
General Assembly is the annual meeting of our Unitarian Universalist Association. Attendees worship, witness, learn, connect, and make policy for the Association through democratic process. Anyone may attend; congregations must certify annually to send voting delegates. The 2019 General Assembly will be June 19-23 in Spokane, Washington. Most General Assembly events will be held in the Spokane Convention Center.
The Power of We
What do we want Unitarian Universalism to be? It is a time when we are asking big questions in our faith, and GA 2019 will be focused on digging into those questions together. It is a critical chance for congregational leaders and passionate UUs to set new goals and aspirations for our religious community. Help begin to reshape our Association and our congregations in new and powerful ways.
This year's theme is about collective power, "The Power of We," as well as the possibility, the purpose, the struggle and the joy of what it means to be together in faithful community. In the past two years, Unitarian Universalism has recommitted to the work of liberation inside and outside our faith community. The antidote to a time of dangerous dehumanization is a love that connects us to our deeper humanity. Come to Spokane to experience what our shared faith can become when we embrace the Power of We.
