NRH Leash Law Reminder

It's that time of year when the weather begins to warm and people and their pooches are spending more time outdoors. Nothing is better than an enjoyable day exploring our parks and trails with your furry best friend, but there are things to remember during your visit.

City ordinance requires that dogs be restrained at all times when outside of their home or enclosed yard. Simply put, when visiting a park or trail, in your neighborhood or any other public place, a dog must be restrained by a leash in the immediate and physical control of its owner at ALL TIMES. Dogs are not permitted to run loose, harass other pets or wildlife, or create nuisances or safety concerns for other people nearby. If you would like to have your dog run off leash, we encourage you to visit Tipps Canine Hollow Dog Park; where off-leash is acceptable within the fenced in portions of the dog park.

Also, please remember that dogs are required to be currently vaccinated for rabies and have a city license tag on their collar, and owners are required to clean up after their pets. Keeping parks, trails and neighborhoods safe, clean, and fun depends on everyone abiding by the rules to help ensure a good time for all!

For questions concerning responsible pet ownership or to report animal related violations, please contact North Richland Hills Animal Services at 817-427-6570.  For more information on Tipps Canine Hollow Dog Park, contact the North Richland Hills Parks & Recreation Department at 817-427-6620.

Winter Trout Stocking Program

Teach a kid to fish and you'll make memories to last a lifetime! Texas Parks & Wildlife stocked both Green Valley Park Pond at 7701 Smithfield Rd and Linda Spurlock Park Pond at 6400 Glenview Dr with 1,000 Rainbow Trout fingerlings today. There is no minimum length and a 5 trout daily limit. Trout anglers will need the $5 Freshwater Fishing Stamp, which is included in all freshwater license packages. Anglers under 17 years of age are not required to have a license and don't need to purchase a stamp. Texas Parks & Wildlife has shared these tips for catching the trout. If you have any questions about fishing in NRH parks, please contact the Parks & Recreation Department at 817-427-6620.

Good Neighbor Tip: Overhanging Tree Limbs

Trees are an important part of what makes North Richland Hills a great place to live. They help us save energy by shading our homes, provide habitat for birds and other wildlife, clean our air and beautify our neighborhoods. However, they may also cause problems and safety concerns if they are not properly maintained.

Any tree adjacent to a public right of way shall be required to maintain a minimum clearance of 14 feet above the traveled surface curb of a public street, or open space trail. This is to allow for fire trucks, ambulances, school buses, garbage trucks, postal service and other public service vehicles to pass through safely. In addition, overhanging trees must be 14 feet above the sidewalk to allow for safe passage of pedestrians. Keep in mind, if the path is blocked, people will often go around and into the street, making for an unsafe environment.

Please be a good neighbor by properly maintaining the trees on your property so that everyone stays safe. For more information, visit www.nrhtx.com/codecompliance or call 817-427-6663.
