AHN Ryan White Team in the Community!
In support of World AIDS Day, AHN's Ryan White team attended a Health Fair on November 30 at University of Nevada's Knowledge Center.

Our amazing goodie bags were provided by our new dental partner Summit Blvd Dental .  
AHN Receives Grant from Susan and Gloria Young Foundation
The AHN Medical Discount Program (MDP) helps roughly 3,000 uninsured women throughout Northern Nevada gain access to the care they need to become and stay well. The Susan and Gloria Young Foundation provided us grant dollars to assist women diagnosed with heart disease pay for any necessary care that can help them better manage their disease. This includes: primary care visits, specialty care visits, medications, diagnostic testing such as lab work, weight management programs, and health education programs.
Did you know we have a dental and vision program?
Our Healthy Living Program offers affordable access to dental and vision providers among many other wellness services.

This program is a great option for those with health insurance that may not cover dental, mental, and ancillary care.
Season of Giving at AHN
AHN has a quarterly “Giving Tree.” Staff members nominate clients and their families they feel will benefit from receiving gifts they need from AHN staff. Our clients complete a “Wish List” and the AHN team purchases the items and delivers them to the families!

We enjoy going above and beyond and making this holiday season one to remember for our wonderful program members.

Current and new MDP members can receive 1 month of free membership! All the member has to do is pay for 5 months, valid for the time frame of January 2019 through June 2019.

Additionally, current MDP members can get $25 off their monthly membership for every household they refer to sign up for the MDP during the month of December!

Senators Warn Extreme Increase in Insulin Prices Will Hurt Diabetics
Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Co-Chairs of the Senate Diabetes Caucus, warned insurers that a 240% insulin price increase over the last decade “could place an essential diabetes treatment out of reach for some Americans." The Senators sent the warning in letters to the three largest insurance companies, United Healthcare, Anthem, and Aetna while requesting information on insulin prices and rebates. Specifically, the two Senators are looking for information on the role that insurance plans play in promoting affordable access to insulin products for people with diabetes. 
Amazon's Alexa May Soon Be Able to Tell If User Is Sick
Amazon may soon be able to anticipate if you are sick and recommend medicines that you could conveniently purchase from their site. Amazon has filed a patent for its virtual voice assistant, Alexa, that would give it the ability to analyze speech and identify signs of sickness (coughing, sneezing, etc.). Alexa would then automatically offer the purchase of medicines, cough drops, and other remedies as well as allow Amazon to have targeted ads for health products for the consumer/user. There is still a discussion around this software and the effects it will have for the users and their environments.
