The Annual Celebration is Mental Health Advocacy Services' largest event of the year bringing together attorneys, mental health professionals, advocates, consumers, and supporters to honor those fighting to protect and advance the rights of people with mental health disabilities.

2020 HONOREES
Esmé is a novelist and essayist. She is the author of the New York Times-bestselling essay collection, The Collected Schizophrenias (2019), in which she writes about her experience living with a chronic physical and mental illness.

Her debut novel, The Border of Paradise, was called a Best Book of 2016 by NPR and one of the 25 Best Novels of 2016 by Electric Literature. She was named by Granta as one of the “Best of Young American Novelists” in 2017 and won the Whiting Award in 2018.
During his 16 years in the U.S. House of Representatives, Patrick fought to end discrimination against mental illness, addiction, and other brain diseases.

He was the lead sponsor of the groundbreaking Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act. This law requires insurance companies to treat illnesses of the brain, such as depression and addiction, the same way they treat illnesses of the body, such as diabetes and cancer. In 2013, he also founded The Kennedy Forum, a non-profit organization whose mission is to lead a national dialogue on transforming mental health and addiction care delivery.
