Tanya L Weiker, PT, CEAS, AOEAS

Program Creator and Master Instructor
HEALTHY BACKS & BODIES™

HEALTHY BACKS & BODIES™ is the evolution of this drive, and the manifestation of Tanya Weiker's mission: To help people live fuller, healthier, happier lives through the prevention of unnecessary pain and injury.  And to empower people and corporations to take action in mastering the biomechanics of safe, healthy and efficient movement before the pain and dysfunction show themselves.

Working with multiple aspects of injury prevention, treatment and performance for the past 25 years, Tanya has fine-tuned her approach to guiding people of all ages and physical demands, into a safer, more attuned, healthy lifestyle.

Tanya's programs are the culmination of years of hands-on treating, clinical insight, and clinical and corporate teaching united with the realization that if only people knew the way, and would commit to following it, back pain as we know it could be forever changed.  Tanya's teaching is founded upon the belief that awareness and knowledge lead to action and that when provided with a compelling reason in combination with sound tools, people are inherently motivated to change and to protect their bodies.

Join us as we welcome back Tanya to learn:
  • Improved physical health and healthcare measures via proper C·O·R·E™ Posturing & Positioning within the instruction of Adaptive Office Ergonomics
  • Heightened proficiency in 're-working' an office work station and a home work station to meet recommended ergonomic guidelines and standards
  • Increased utilization of basic ergonomic measures to prevent injury, foster health, and minimize (or eliminate) musculoskeletal pain in daily working and living.
  • Enhanced application of C·O·R·E™ Positioning, integrated movements and preventative actions within the office and home work settings
  • Decreased loss of time secondary to MSD's, RSI's and musculoskeletal pain
  • Decreased negative impact of pain and injury on productivity, energy, stamina, endurance, efficiency, morale, and effectiveness

Question:

What practices can I use when lifting heavy loads?

Answer:

Before Lifting

  • Stop and assess the load and if too heavy seek advice
  • Consult management or safety officer for advice on how to manage heavy loads
  • Plan the lift, i.e., estimate the load and know exactly where it is to be placed prior to lifting
  • Avoid reaching out
  • Do not reach out to pick up any object
  • Handle heavy objects close to the body
  • Keep yourself in good physical shape with proper exercise and diet
  • Avoid lifting heavy leads without help and plan the lift together
  • Can you reduce the load???
  • Wherever possible use mechanical means, e.g. can you use a forklift, winch or crane
  • Avoid placing objects on the ground if they have to be picked up at a later time
BWC offers a Safety Intervention Grant program to assist eligible employers purchase equipment to reduce the risk of repetitive lifting tasks.   Eligible equipment includes: Lift tables, patient lifting assistance, powered dollies, and overhead ceiling lifts. Work Zone Awareness Week:
April 9 - 13

Reduced speed limits. Lane closures. Detours. Trucks entering the highway. Pavement changes. These are just a few reasons why driving in work zones requires special attention.

While the men and women working in the road are in a dangerous business, statistically drivers are even more at risk. Here's how you can stay safe in a work zone:

  • Dedicate your full attention to driving. Avoid using a phone or changing the radio station.
  • Follow directions from work zone flaggers and pay attention to warnings posted on work zone signs.
  • Watch for construction workers and their equipment. Also, stay alert to the vehicles around you.
Go Orange Day 2018

Wednesday, April 11

All roadway safety professionals across the country are encouraged to wear orange to proudly show their support of work zone safety. Go Orange Day and National Work Zone Awareness Week is an important time to show your support of the roadway safety industry, especially to the families of victims who have lost their lives in work zones.

Distracted Driving Awareness Month

Distracted driving is a public health issue that affects us all. The latest statistics show motor vehicle fatalities are up 6% from 2015. More than 40,000 people were killed on our nation's roadways last year, and distracted driving is a major contributor.

Each death is 100% preventable. From cell phones to dashboard infotainment systems to evolving voice command features - all pose a threat to our safety. Just one second of your attention is all takes to change a life forever.
Distracted Driving Awareness Month in April is a united effort to recognize and eliminate preventable deaths from distracted driving. Join us to help save lives.

Resources to Share
Create awareness in your workplace, your home or community by sharing the distracted driving message. NSC offers infographics, posters, fact sheets and a number of social media-friendly graphics.

Help Employees Reduce Risks of Falls At Work

Slips, trips and falls are a leading cause of injury and death for workers. In fact, falls to a lower level are the second-most common cause of workplace death, surpassed only by highway crashes.

Often, injuries sustained in a fall result in traumatic brain injuries and other long-term disabilities. Workers' compensation costs for falls averaged more than $45,000 per person in 2014, and lack of proper fall protection remains the most frequently cited violation by OSHA.

BWC Introduces Better You, Better Ohio! ™

Helping You Meet Your Health and  Wellness  Goals

The backbone of a successful business is its workers, and the backbone of Ohio is its workforce. At BWC, we take our mission to take care of Ohio's workforce seriously.

That's why we're offering Better You, Better Ohio!™ - a program that provides health and wellness resources and services to workers who work for small employers (50 or fewer workers) in select high-risk industries. We designed Better You, Better Ohio! to help workers and their employers at no cost and through a simple, paperless process.

Employers can reap great benefits from having a healthy workforce. Healthy employees are less prone to injury. And, when they are injured, their ability to recover is enhanced greatly. Overall, employers with a healthy workforce have lower workers' compensation and health-care costs.

Meanwhile, workers can take steps to improve their health and wellness such as completing a health assessment and a biometric screening, digital coaching and more. As a bonus, workers can earn financial rewards by completing various steps in the program. To learn more, visit our Better You, Better Ohio! webpage.
