SPRING 2018
Don't miss our annual meeting on April 19, where we'll celebrate the fund’s impact in the community and ask for your support in Investing in Our Future . Proceeds will benefit the GCEF Scholarship Fund. We'll also unveil TransAkron, a groundbreaking photojournalism series that portrays the stories of trans, nonbinary and gender-nonconforming people in the Akron area.
Through April 30, the GCEF Scholarship Fund is accepting applications from LGBTQ and allied students pursuing a postsecondary degree. Applicants must live or study in Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit and Wayne counties. Priority is given to students who have participated in organizations or initiatives that make a difference in the LGBTQ community.
After serving on the Gay Community Endowment Fund's advisory board for nine years, our chair, Cindy Christman, will conclude her term in April. But this isn't goodbye: Cindy is more committed to the fund's mission than ever. Read her thoughts on the past year and learn about her vision for 2018 and beyond.
Most children involved in the child welfare system face challenges, but the impact is especially magnified when the child identifies as LGBTQ. A recent grant to the CASA Board Volunteer Association is supporting a community awareness campaign to recruit volunteers who can advocate for LGBTQ youth in foster care.
Save the date for our 17th annual Sugar Plum Tour
Plans are well underway for this year's Sugar Plum Tour of Holiday Homes, which will take place on Sunday, Dec. 2. The tour features some of the area’s finest historic and contemporary homes, all decked out for the holidays. Proceeds ultimately support GCEF's grantmaking to programs that positively impact the LGBTQ community and Greater Akron as a whole.
