March 2019
Photo of the Month
The kangaroos don't know what to think of this frozen tundra. When the sun is shining and the wind's not blowing, they come out of their warm barn and explore the cold white stuff -- but not for very long! The baby joey (lower left) is even getting his first glimpse of winter in Iowa. All we know is, we have to push the snow drifts toward the middle of the pen so they can't jump on the snow hills and over the top of the fence!

Calling all pie lovers
Who doesn't love pie a la mode? We will have a special treat for our customers at both Cedar Falls and Waterloo locations on Pi Day (3.14) Thursday, March 14.

Get a slice of Try Pie with a scoop of your favorite ice cream for only $2.99! Flavors of pie will be Pecan Praline, Raspberry, Cherry and Apple. The Waterloo store will have hard dip ice cream flavors, and the Cedar Falls store will have soft-serve.

Try Pie is a non-profit organization developed through Orchard Hill and Harvest Vineyard churches. Each week a group of teenagers from Waterloo and Cedar Falls, along with adult mentors, meet for a time of learning and pie making. The pies are then sold throughout the community. The youth develop faith, life, and business skills as they work alongside one another, and Hansen's Dairy is proud to support them in their efforts!

Customer of the Month
Roy Hillyer
The March Customer of the Month is Roy Hillyer  of Cedar Rapids.

Roy was shopping at his local Hy-Vee store in Cedar Rapids when he came upon a sample table with a variety of Hansen's Dairy products.

"The person at the display was very knowledgeable about the products and Hansen production process," Roy said. "I think the person even knew the name of the cows."

Roy was looking for cheese curds and decided to try Hansen's.  "I thought, 'Wow, this is what real cheese curds taste like,'" Roy said. "I then went on to try the chocolate milk, and then my favorite, Chip & Cherry ice cream. The flavor of everything is delicious, and I know it's locally produced."

Roy's family enjoys Hansen's products for the fresh taste. Roy also had a suggestion for us.

"The next calf you have at the farm, please name it Norah (after Norah Jones)," he said.

Thanks, Roy! Customers of the Month receive a $5 gift certificate to use at our stores and two free hands-on tour passes to the farm (a $24 value). You could be chosen by filling out an entry form at our stores or through your comments on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
Cow of the Month
Our March Cow of the Month has a peculiar trait.

Loaf, who just turned 2 years old in February, was born with one ear that droops. Her right ear just flops forward and doesn't stick out straight like most cows' ears. We're not quite sure if it was a birth defect or if it somehow got broken. That ear reminds us of Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh!

Thankfully her ear issue doesn't cause her any problems. She just had her first calf and is a gentle cow to work with!

Cooking with Hansen's
Here's a Minty Hot Chocolate recipe that's super simple to make and will please an entire crew! With only two ingredients (both of which can be purchased at any Hansen's Dairy store), the kids can help make this creamy delight. They will enjoy sipping on it to warm up after a hard day playing in the snow! Coffee lovers will also enjoy it as a flavored creamer.

For smaller crowds, just use a half-gallon of Hansen's Dairy Chocolate Milk and 1 to 2 half-pints Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream. Be sure to use this month's coupon to get your chocolate milk!
