Inclement Weather Postpones Season's First Doctors' Lounge
The significant snowfall on April 3 led to the postponement of the year's first Doctors' Lounge in St. Cloud. The MMA hopes to reschedule the event for later this month. Mayo Docs' Celebrity Status Grows with Appearance on The Ellen Show
Mayo Clinic residents Elvis Francois and William Robinson stopped by The Ellen Show this week to perform a short song and discuss their Internet fame. The physicians, who are both training as orthopaedic surgeons, gained notoriety for a video of them performing that went viral recently. Francois sings and Robinson accompanies him on the piano. Immediate Vacancy Available on MMA's Policy Council
The MMA's Policy Council has an immediate vacancy for a member from the northeast part of the state. The Council provides a representative mechanism and simplified process for obtaining broad member input, feedback and ideas on critical health policy issues facing Minnesota physicians. Opportunity to Impact MinnesotaCare and Medical Assistance
The Department of Human Services is accepting applications from physicians to serve on the Health Services Policy Committee, which advises the commissioner on matters relating to Medical Assistance and MinnesotaCare. The committee meets at least quarterly and members receive a $200 per diem plus mileage. Applications are being accepted for two vacancies - one position for a licensed physician in active practice and one position for a licensed physician representing a health plan. Deadlines Set for Minnesota Medicine's Annual Writing and Photography Contests
The editors of Minnesota Medicine are once again looking for physicians, residents and medical students to tap into their creativity and enter their work in the magazine's annual writing and photography contests. Read more here.
MNAAP Sets Its Annual Meeting for May 11
The Minnesota Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics will hold its Hot Topics in Pediatrics Conference and Annual Meeting on May 11 at the Wilder Foundation in St. Paul. The event will cover pediatric disparities, infectious disease, immunizations, sleep medicine, clinic emergencies, preparedness and advocacy. Click here for more information. 
Guidance on Shingles Drug Now Available From MDH
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has developed a new guidance document called Vaccination Guidance for the Prevention of Herpes Zoster (Shingles) to help providers navigate new recommendations from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). The guidance provides a summary of the recommendations and offers tips to help improve uptake and avoid errors when using this new zoster vaccine. Save the Date: 2018 Annual Conference is Sept. 21 and 22 in St. Paul
Planning is well underway for this year's Annual Conference (AC18), which will be held Sept. 21 and 22 at the River Centre in St. Paul. The event will include the inauguration of the MMA's next president, awards, educational sessions, policy discussions, an Open Issues Forum and networking. AC18 will also include the reconvening of the House of Delegates.
