Roton Team Showcases Middle School Redesign Success At National Conference
Congratulations to Roton Middle School for being one of 18 schools featured at the nationally recognized ASCD Empower 18 Conference in Boston on March 23 for implementation of middle school redesign. The Roton Leadership team presented "Raising the Bar, Closing the Gap: Middle School Redesign that Works." The presentation highlighted the record growth that Roton has made by embracing middle school redesign plans. Click on the video above, which was included as part of the presentation, to learn more. 

Roton presenters included LaShante' James (Assistant Principal), Tritty Kelly (West House Vertical Leader), Shannon Mariconda (East House Vertical Leader), Amy Nill (Middle School Redesign School Representative) and Christie Robinson (Technology and Professional Development Vertical House Leader). Congrats to all!
Last Day of School and Graduation Ceremonies

It's hard to believe that the last day of school is just around the corner! At this week’s Board of Education meeting, the last day of school was confirmed as Tuesday, June 19, barring any additional school closures due to weather.
 
Mark your calendars, as NPS seniors prepare to celebrate their graduation, and middle school students gear up for promotion ceremonies. Norwalk High School graduation will take place on Monday, June 18 at 6pm. Brien McMahon High School graduation will be held Tuesday, June 19 at 6pm. Middle school promotion ceremonies will be held on Friday, June 15 at 6pm. Middle school students will return to class after promotion exercises to complete the 182 days of school. T here will be a 2 hour early dismissal for all students on the last two days of school, June 18 and 19.
PF Camp Registration Now Available

Summer will be in full swing before you know it, and PF Camp has something for every child from crafts to sports, archery and more! PF Camp for students grades K-4 will be held at Nathan Hale Middle School, while students grades 5 through 8 will attend middle school camp at Norwalk High School. NPS To Award The CT State Seal of Biliteracy

Norwalk Public Schools is pleased to announce that students will have the opportunity to be awarded the Connecticut State Seal of Biliteracy. This honor, established by the State Board of Education, acknowledges that a student has demonstrated mastery of two or more languages. The Seal of Biliteracy also provides recognition to English learners for the great value of developing English and maintaining their primary language. Students will be eligible to earn the Seal of Biliteracy beginning in this 2017-2018 school year. Those who earn this award will receive The Seal of Biliteracy on their diplomas at graduation. NPS Annual Citywide STEM Expo Winners Announced

Students, families and community members had fun learning about science, technology, engineering and math solutions to everyday issues while attending the Norwalk Public Schools STEM Expo. The second annual citywide event, which took place on March 24 at Brien McMahon High School, offered demos ranging from egg drop devices to alternative energy racers, catapults, and garbage bag gliders. English Language Arts And Math Curriculum Links Now Live

Rigorous curriculum design mapping and alignment to Common Core State Standards in grades K-12 in ELA, math and science are an important goal of the Strategic Operating Plan. Over the past few years, the curriculum team worked to update and align priority standards, skills and concepts with this goal. The links for English language arts and math are now live and include a snapshot view of the updated curriculum documents for K-12.

Norwalk High School Music Department Presents The Addams Family

They're creepy and they're kooky, mysterious and spooky, they're all together ooky, The Addams Family. The Norwalk High School Music Department is pleased to present “The Addams Family.” Join Wednesday, Gomez, Morticia and the rest of the Addams crew as they recreate a timeless classic. Performances will take place on April 27 at 7pm, April 28 at 2pm and 7pm, May 4 at 7pm and May 5 at 2pm and 7pm. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance online .
Brien McMahon High School Presents Hairspray
It is 1962 and Tracy Turnblad can think of nothing more than dancing on The Corny Collins Show. This high-haired teen with all the right moves will have you dancing in your seat during Brien McMahon Music Department’s production of musical romantic comedy “Hairspray.” Opening Night is April 27 at 7:30pm followed by performances on April 28 at 7:30 PM, May 5 at 2:00pm and 7:30pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door one hour before show time, or in advance online .
Excellence In Education Tickets Now On Sale

The Norwalk Education Foundation (NEF), Norwalk Federation of Teachers and Norwalk Public Schools are gearing up for the second annual Excellence in Educational awards on April 26 at the Doubletree in Norwalk! Families are welcome to purchase tickets to support honorees. New to the event this year are The Excellence in Educational Support awards, which were designed to honor non-certified staff members who have earned the respect and admiration of students, teachers, administrators, co-workers and parents.

Event tickets are available on a first come, first served basis through Eventbrite for a cost of $45 per ticket. Tickets will be available at the door for $50. Last year’s event was a sell out, so we recommend purchasing tickets in advance. Those being recognized will receive one complimentary ticket, courtesy of NEF and its sponsors. Norwalk SAT Day

SAT Day will take place in Norwalk on April 24, after having been postponed due to weather. Students in grade 11 should arrive to school at 7:30am. Students in grade 9, 10 and 12 should arrive by 11:30am. Freshman, sophomores and seniors who ride the bus should be at their usual bus stops 4 hours after their usual times.
 
All students in grade 11 will take the SAT as our district’s statewide assessment. The SAT, administered by the College Board, is a standardized test and is used for college admissions and merit-based scholarships. The test is free of charge to all Norwalk PS students. For Parents Of Young Adult Drivers

The National Safety Council deems each April as Distracted Driving Awareness month. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) teen drivers, 15 to 19 years old are the age group most at risk for distracted driving accidents. With so many young drivers in Norwalk, it is important to educate teens on the risks of distracted driving, and help them learn how to drive responsibly and safely. To watch a video on ways to keep your teen driver safe click here .
