UPDATE: MANDATORY PAID SICK LEAVE

The Albany County Legislature has postponed a vote on
paid sick leave mandate until 2019.

The proposal before the legislature would require employers operating in Albany County to provide paid sick leave to employees working more than
80 hours in a year. Employees at certain businesses could accumulate
up to nine days of paid leave a year.

Employers with less than five workers would be able to provide unpaid, rather than paid, sick leave. Employers with between five and 100 workers
would provide up to five days. Employees could donate accumulated
paid sick leave time to coworkers.

Some business owners say the bill would be expensive and challenging to implement. While bill supporters say it will keep people healthier.
