Swing for a million bucks at the AIM Golf Tournament 
Registration is open for the fourth annual AIM Golf Tournament, set for Sunday, May 6 at Elmira Country Club. One lucky player will take the Million Dollar Shot after the tournament.
Proceeds from the AIM Golf Tournament support our programs and services for people with disabilities.
The fourth annual AIM Golf Tournament will be held on Sunday, May 6 at Elmira Country Club, and it will feature the Million Dollar Shot, sponsored by Perry & Carroll Insurance.

One player will be selected to take a shot for $1 million from 165 yards on the 18 th hole following the conclusion of play.

Also, an ace by any player on any par-3 during the tournament is worth $5,000.
 
The AIM Golf Tournament will also feature skins, closest-to-the-pin and longest-drive contests. 

There will be cash prizes for the top teams.

It's a captain-and-crew format with four-player teams. The entry fee is $320 per team, and proceeds support AIM's programs and services for people with disabilities. 

Check-in will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., with a hot dog, chips and a drink for lunch. There will be a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m.

A buffet dinner at the country club will follow the tournament, and we'll give away dozens of raffle prizes, including a TV, thanks to the generosity of local businesses. Tickets for the raffle will be sold for $20 at the check-in table prior to the tournament.

AIM to host planning workshop for families of people with developmental disabilities

AIM will present a free disability planning workshop with attorney Adrienne Arkontaky from 6-8 p.m. on April 24 at AIM's Elmira office, 350 W. Church St.

Arkontaky's presentation will focus on planning for the future for families of people with developmental disabilities. She will discuss letters of intent and personal journals, guardianship, advance directives, special needs trusts and estate planning.

Arkontaky is vice president of Cuddy Law Firm and managing attorney of the firm's White Plains office. Her practice specializes in disability planning, special education advocacy, and guardianship for families of children with disabilities.

Volunteer advocates sought to visit
nursing home residents in Steuben, Allegany
AIM Independent Living Center is seeking volunteers for its Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, which serves Steuben and Allegany counties.

Ombudsmen are advocates for people who live in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and adult care homes.

Volunteer ombudsmen visit long-term care facilities, build relationships with residents, and give them a voice.

The volunteers help people understand their rights; address issues that could impact health, safety and quality of life; and investigate complaints.

Volunteers will be trained and certified, and can expect to spend about two hours per week on visits. Mileage is reimbursed.

Adriance-Wensel to oversee OPWDD services 
Danielle Adriance-Wensel
Danielle Adriance-Wensel has been promoted to the position of Director of OPWDD Services.
 
She will oversee all programs and services offered by AIM under the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities. 
 
This includes Medicaid Service Coordination, Brokerage and Fiscal Intermediary Services, Community Habilitation and Family Support Services. 
 
Adriance-Wensel previously supervised Medicaid Service Coordination. 
 
In other staffing changes:
 
- Anne Crozier was promoted to OPWDD Community Habilitation Program Coordinator. In this program, AIM's team of direct support professionals works with people with developmental disabilities in their homes and the community to help them learn independent living skills. 
 
- Sandra Gates was hired as a NY Connects Independent Living Specialist.  NY Connects is a statewide partnership between independent living centers and county offices for the aging to connect people with disabilities and seniors with long-term supports and services.  Gates will work with the Steuben County Office for the Aging and the Livingston County Office for the Aging to provide information, options counseling and referrals in those counties.
