HART BEGINS GUIDEWAY INSTALLATION NEAR AIRPORT & PEARL HARBOR

The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation is beginning overhead guideway installation work along Kamehameha Highway near Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.

HART's contractor, Shimmick Traylor and Granite Joint Venture (STG JV), recently completed installation of the first span or, the section of guideway between two columns, and anticipates launching the gantry to install individual segments of the Airport Guideway moving east later this month.

A second gantry, which will be assembled near the intersection of Main Street and Nimitz Highway, will launch east-bound toward Daniel K. Inouye International Airport this spring. This section of the project will utilize an articulating gantry in order to maneuver around the sharp turns at Aolele Street, near the United States Post Office, and the inter-island parking structure.

STG JV remains on schedule to complete this Airport Guideway and Stations (AGS) section of the Rail Transit Project by the fourth quarter of 2021.
HART CONTINUES TO HELP BUSINESSES ALONG RAIL ROUTE

In its continuing efforts to assist businesses affected by construction of the Honolulu Rail Transit Project, the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation is taking steps to mitigate impacts to those businesses as rail construction advances into the City Center of the Project.  Currently, contractors are busy locating and redirecting various utility lines (water, sewer, communication, electrical lines, etc.) to allow for expedited guideway construction in the future.

The HART Public Involvement Team is keeping open lines of communication with businesses and residents along the alignment.
In the Kaka'ako area, in cooperation various businesses, HART is supply signage, letting people know that businesses are "Open During Construction".  In addition, HART's "Shop & Dine-on-the-Line" program provides businesses with marketing tools and a promotional platform to encourage customers to patronize those businesses during construction

The signage and "Shop & Dine" programs are both offered free of charge.  To find out how you can take advantage of these great opportunities, or to meet with a member of HART's Business Outreach Team, click here.

LOOK AHEAD,
NOT OVERHEAD!

As HART and contractor STG Joint Venture begin guideway segment construction in the areas south of Aloha Stadium, on to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, and towards the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, we remind drivers and pedestrians to be aware of their surroundings as they pass through these work zones.  In particular, please be mindful of the flaggers that may be directing traffic flow in and around these areas.

Often, people can be distracted by the flurry of activity happening above the rail columns, as guideway construction moves forward.

As you pass through ANY construction zone, please limit distractions as much as possible.  Limit conversations with others and remember that using a mobile device, while driving or in a crosswalk, is unlawful.

Remember the rule...
"Look ahead, not overhead!"
