Public Safety Town Hall
with LAPD Chief Michel Moore

Dear Friend:

This January, I'm hosting a Council District 2 town hall to welcome our newly appointed Chief of Police Michel Moore. Chief Moore will discuss the state of public safety in our communities and what the LAPD is doing to meet the challenges we face in our neighborhoods.

I invite you to join me as we talk with Chief Moore about issues that are important to you and your family.

The event will also feature East Valley LAPD leaders who will address your concerns about local policing and the needs of our communities.  It will be a great opportunity to hear from the LAPD directly about what's being done to tackle crime, and a chance to learn about how you can get involved and be part of the solution.
In This Issue
In order to make the discussion as informative and comprehensive as possible, only questions submitted prior to the town hall will be addressed by Chief Moore. When you RSVP using the link below, you can also submit questions.

Councilmember Krekorian joined Councilmembers Mitch O'Farrell, Paul Koretz and Nury Martinez at a press conference to announce the City Council's decision to restrict plastic straw use in Los Angeles. | Photo: CD2

LOS ANGELES - This week, the City Council approved a new proposal to implement a straw-on-request policy in Los Angeles and phase out plastic straws citywide by 2021. Once the law passes, it will make Los Angeles the largest city in the nation to implement a "plastic straw upon request" policy.

"This is a positive solution to address the issue of plastic straws in Los Angeles and another important step toward changing the way people think about single-use plastic," said Councilmember Krekorian. "Since the ban of plastic bags, we've seen how Angelenos have shifted the way they get groceries. People are more conscious about the environment, and Los Angeles will be a better city once we complete our shift away from harmful plastics."

CITY HIGHLIGHT
Create a People St in Your Community

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Department Transportation is hosting a neighborhood workshop on how to create a "People St" in your community. The community workshop will go over the application process and what's required to inaugurate a new plaza in your neighborhood.

People St is a citywide program that partners with communities to create new public spaces in underutilized places. In 2015, Councilmember Krekorian opened NoHo Plaza just off Lankershim, north of Magnolia, the San Fernando Valley's first People St Plaza.

The People St program provides eligible community organizations with a process to propose project locations, and the information and tools to partner with the city to complete these projects.

The application period for plazas, parklets, and bicycle corrals is open now through January 22.
