New High Holy Days Prayer Books
Rabbi Johanna had started down the path of creating our own High Holy Days prayer book when three anonymous donors stepped forward offering to buy 125 new Reform machzors for our congregation. Thank you and what a mitzvah! The beautiful Mishkan HaNefesh: Machzor for the Days of Awe will enrich everyone's worship experience on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. The modern, two-volume Reform Jewish prayer book offers fully transliterated liturgy, expanded Torah readings, study texts with background and context, contemporary poetry and alternate readings, rich commentary from Jewish tradition, and new translations capturing the beauty of the Hebrew. Members will have an opportunity to purchase tribute bookplates in their own name or in memory of loved ones. Information coming soon.

Continuing Work on Safety & Security
At our Shabbat Tish gathering at the church several weeks ago, an uninvited guest knocking at the door was a jolt of reality. How do we balance our safety in light of our Jewish values? Immediately after the event, we asked the security task force to assemble a preliminary policy to guide us. We are now working through their recommendation and grappling with important, sometimes difficult questions that touch our core. Of course, safety is the ultimate answer and we are making our way to a final policy that makes sense for our security.

2019 Song of Miriam Award Honoree
Every year since 1993, the Jewish Women's Roundtable, Portland, has hosted the Song of Miriam Brunch in June to recognize women volunteers from Jewish organizations and congregations in Oregon and southwest Washington. This year the nominating committee is honoring Evie Lerner for her contributions to the success of our synagogue and the warmth of our community. In addition to being recognized at the Awards Brunch in June, we will honor Evie at a Shabbat service and her name will appear in the May issue of Oregon Jewish Life. Congratulations, Evie!

Passover's Coming!

The Butcher, the Baker, the Haroset Maker

The best part of any meal is dessert!! This is especially true when the desserts come from the kitchens of our fabulous bakers. For the most delicious of Passover desserts, we are again asking our members to please bake for us. Please contact Jan Freeman-Bauer   [email protected]  to let her know what you can bring. We need finger-food goodies, such as Passover macaroons, bars and cookies.

Jan is also coordinating the haroset makers. Please let her know if you'd like to make a batch at

         Passover Seder
Passover2

  Saturday, April 20th
For TBT's Members & Their Invited Guests

Join Temple Beth Tikvah for this year's Passover Seder. Come for  an inter-generational Seder with music and song, games for all ages, a taste of the Seder plate and a delicious buffet dinner.

Rabbi Hershenson will lead our annual Passover Community Seder. The event is open to members and their invited guests. Doors open at 5:00 pm, and the Seder begins promptly at 5:45 pm.

The meal includes all the tastes of Passover - hard-boiled eggs, haroset, matzo ball soup, horseradish and a very special treat of the Rabbi's homemade gefilte fish. Dinner buffet includes your choice of salmon, chicken, or a vegetarian entree.

The Seder is open to TBT members and their invited guests at a cost of $35 for adults, $15 for children 6 - 12, and no charge for children age 5 and under for those who RSVP by Sunday, April 7th.

Based on space limitations and the need to have reservations in on time, those RSVPs received April 8 through April 13th will be charged a premium of $40/adult and $20/child 6-12. No reservations will be accepted after April 13th.

Wine for the dinner table is available to purchase, or you are welcome to bring your own bottle for a $15 fee. Ceremonial wine will be served at the table.

Once again, we are having open seating, however, we will set aside a group of tables for families with children to be together. Also, if your family and guests number 6 or more, we will make sure that you are seated together.

For more information about the Seder or to make your reservation:

Multi-Talented Jana Will Entertain Us

Saturday, March 16 at 7:00 pm
Adult Center at FPC

TBT's own Jana Zvibleman is Poet Laureate of her own backyard. She has collaborated with sculptors, painters, buskers, and a flugelhornist (trumpet like instrument). Also an author, photographer, artist-on-the-loose, blogger, and budding playwright, her focus meanders from humor to grief, from real to fiction-ish. You can find her works in books, plays, and live performances. And she teaches her tricks. Jana will entertain us with a selection of her Jewishy stories and other tsuris and mishegaas.

For questions, please contact Mel Siegel, [email protected]

Make Money for TBT When You Shop

After we joined TBT, I was on the temple website in Shop & Share under the Give tab to learn about our donation programs. I wondered if I could set up items to order on Amazon based on our shopping style and purchase frequency while feeding donations to TBT.

If you're like us, you probably already use Amazon. So I searched to see if the site had some standard household and pet items we routinely purchase from local stores. It was easy to set up our shopping needs with AmazonSmile though it did take some time to figure out how to organize the items on monthly and bi-monthly orders... but I did it. Now my online purchasing fits seamlessly with our buying practices for the two of us.

As new members, we are so happy to do our part to maximize donations with even more purchases to benefit TBT. I'd love you to join us in creating a steady stream of donations to TBT. With AmazonSmile accounts, we can all Shop & Share to donate every day in a really fun way! (Plus, don't forget about Fred Meyer Rewards!)
