Local Food Club Gets The Royal Treatment!
We at LFC are so grateful to Lorna, David, Amy and Micheal from Royal Bank that helped us pack Local Food Club bags today.

Local Food Club is the recipient of RBC's Volunteer grant this month. These funds will help support our program.

RBC believes that when employees and retirees volunteer their time and expertise, they play a vital role in helping build better communities. Since 1999 RBC has donated more than $33 million in celebration of employee and retiree volunteers efforts.
Only 4 more Local Food Club deliveries! Next order deadline is SUNDAY, MARCH 10TH.

Plan one less dinner this month with Local Food Club! All our packs feature the very best of local produce, fresh greens and hearty baked goods, along with a feature recipe full of food facts, supplier listings and seasonal information about food and farming in Headwaters. Be surprised by the variety of interesting and delicious local veggies available thanks to cold storage and season-extending technologies used by our farmers.

Your order is a direct act of support for the wellbeing of your family, your community and the planet!

Orders close Sunday, March 10th, so you have just a few more days to get your order in. Delivery will be on Wednesday March 27th. We pack the bags at Princess Elizabeth Public School in Orangeville and our happy volunteers deliver the bags to your school, where your pack will be sent home with your child.

What is Regenerative Agriculture?

Regenerative agriculture (RA) is an approach to food and farming systems which aims to improve soil health and increase biodiversity by drawing carbon out of the atmosphere and back into the soil. It has enormous potential to reverse global warming.

Regenerative Agriculture is the #11 solution to reversing global warming among the top 100 ranked by Project Drawdown. Learn more here

Please join us for a panel discussion and information session to find out what you can do to help improve the soil of your garden or your farm and the planet. Everyone can help reverse global warming and ensure fertile soil to feed a growing population.

A question and answer opportunity will follow.
Drawdown Headwaters is a group of concerned citizens taking climate action by implementing the scientifically researched solutions to reverse global warming presented in Project Drawdown.Contact for Drawdown Headwaters: Rose Schmidt drawdownheadwaters@gmail.com

Yoga For Hikers by Nicola Ross
In Southern Ontario, the biggest concern in winter these days isn’t snow, it’s ice. No one
spreads salt on our hiking trails (thankfully for the environment) so they become slithery,
slippery, oftentimes treacherous things. Moreover, the ice persists on our trails long after it’s gone from the surrounding landscape. When ice prevails and even the combination of spiked footwear and hiking poles isn’t enough to make you feel safe on the trails, how about doing a little yoga to keep you hiking fit. It will improve your experience out on the trails when the ice does finally recede.

Those who do yoga know that it simultaneously improves strength and flexibility. What is less well known is that it can also build up cardio fitness, especially if you do sun salutations: a flowing series of yoga poses that will raise your heart rate. I highly recommend hikers at least give yoga a try. Not only will you be able to negotiate the trails more confidently, but you won’t have to worry about keeping up.

Tips about Yoga for Hikers
1. Don’t be deterred if the first yoga class you attend doesn’t appeal to you. There are many different types of yoga ranging from slow and gentle yin yoga to power yoga. Find what works for you.
2. Just as there are different types of yoga, instructors differ too. Find an instructor who
appeals to you. Try out a few different classes with different instructors. Normally, your first
class is free.
3. If you have specific problems such as a bad knee or a wonky shoulder, tell the instructor. A good instructor gives alternative directions on how to do a certain pose if you have an injury.

Post Hike Yoga Stretches
Jean Szmidt, owner of Evergreen Yoga in Palgrave, explains that stretching after a hike is really important. She suggests four stretches after your walk is done (see below). You can do them anytime, but they are particularly useful when your body is all warmed up from a good hike (or some sun salutations).

Namaste.

Author Bio: From Loops & Lattes Hiking Guides’ author and avid hiker Nicola Ross. Visit www.nicolaross.ca to purchase one of her four hiking guides, sign up for her newsletter and receive info about hiking trails, books, contests and more.
Downward Dog
If you can, do a downward dog, it will stretch the back of your legs, arms, calves, hamstrings and more. If you cannot do a downward dog then fold forward from the waist to stretch your legs.
Kneeling Lunge
A kneeling lunge stretches the front of your thighs and hip flexors.
Pigeon Pose
Pigeon pose (one of my favourites) stretches your hips.
Reclined Twist
A reclined twist stretches the lower back, IT band and the front of the
opposite shoulder.
