"Bringing people and dreams together one home at a time."

"We really enjoyed working with Susie and would recommend her anytime.  She listened to our needs and helped us find our forever home.  She also took care of everything while we were still in Texas."

~Don and Ginger Tillison

When planning your kitchen remodel, you will want to consider the market and decide whether a low-, medium-, or high-end kitchen remodel makes the most sense.   Then, you'll want to choose all of the appliances, materials and finishes down to the hardware before the project begins. That way, you will have a truly realistic idea of how much the project will cost. While you want to stay on top of trends, you'll also want to be careful not to make upgrades that clash with the style of the rest of the home.  All of these tips can help you when deciding which materials make the most sense for your renovation.

Consider Material When Planning Kitchen Renovation

For many homeowners, aesthetics and function are the primary considerations of a kitchen renovation.  However, there is another essential factor to explore - the materials your will use for each feature.   The floor, sink and counter tops can take the heaviest use in the kitchen, so the materials you use can help ensure your renovation stands the test of time.

Flooring
Though often taken for granted, the floor is generally the kitchen feature that sustains the heaviest use over time.  Tile is an excellent choice for a kitchen because the materials stand up well to heavy traffic and spills common in that space.  However, it can be slippery and uncomfortable if you spend long amounts of time on your feet.

When it comes to wood, one of the first decisions to be made is whether you prefer engineered or solid hardwood.  Engineered woods tend to offer greater durability and flexibility in installation, while the texture and appearance of solid hardwood are its strongest appeals.

If something a little less traditional is more your speed, an option such as foot-friendly cork or a modern take on vinyl may be more to your liking.  Vinyl planks can now be waterproof for kitchen use and look like wood or tile.  It is also easy to install and can be put over existing flooring.

Sink
Considering the abuse this vessel endures, this is one place the material is especially important.  Classic stainless steel is not only practical, but it's also extremely versatile.  It is a favorite among cooks and designers alike.  Hot pans won't hurt it and it's less likely than harder materials to damage delicate dishware that may slip from your grip.

If you're looking to make a statement, an enameled cast-iron sink may be the answer.  They withstand heavy pots to searing skillets and you can choose from a wide range of colors.   Another tough, yet elegant choice is a composite sink.  Kohler's Cairn sink is an example.  It is made of Neoroc, a matte-finish composite material designed for extreme durability and unmatched beauty.  Neoroc resists scratches, stains and fading and is highly heat and impact resistant.

Counter Tops
Counters can take a real beating.  That's what makes stone a favorite for this surface.  Natural stones, such as granite or quartz are hardy, but engineered options offer even greater resilience.  Marble and limestone deliver beauty similar to natural stone, but these softer materials require more care and caution.

Concrete and wood are popular and stylish alternatives, but their susceptibility to stains and other imperfections may make them impractical for a busy home.

Then, for the budget-conscious, there are ample options in laminate, which falls in the mid-range for durability, to achieve an eye-catching look for less.

Smith and David Holsinger. This band will have a majority of music majors playing in it.  The annual Spring Tour has been going on since the 1930's and is a strong part of the musical experience for the music majors at CMU.  The concert repertoire will be very similar to what we like to hear from the Hot Springs Community Band, from  Marches to Classics. The tour is being sponsored by all three United Methodist Churches in Hot Springs Village: Village UMC, Christ of the Hills UMC and Mountainside UMC.

Blackened Catfish Tacos

Ingredients
Vegetable oil, for oiling grill grates
8 Tortillas, flour or corn (8 in)
1/4 Cup Cajun blackening seasoning
1 lb Catfish fillets
1 Red onion, sliced into thick rings
2 Tomatoes, chopped
1 Avacado, diced
1/2 Cup sour cream
Lime wedges, for serving
1 Cup loosely packed fresh cilantro leaves
Hot Sauce, for serving

1.)   Coat a grill rack with oil and preheat the grill on high for 5 minutes.

2.)   Place the blackening seasoning in a shallow baking dish. Roll the catfish in the seasoning until well coated. Reduce the grill to medium-high, and grill the onions over direct heat until well browned and wilting, turning once, about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, grill the fish over direct heat until cooked through, turning once, about 6 minutes. At the same time, place the tortillas directly on the grill for 1 minute per side. Stack the tortillas and wrap them in foil or a clean towel to keep warm.

3.)   Arrange the fish on a plate, and flake into bite-size pieces with a fork. Transfer the onions to a separate plate. Place the tomatoes, avocado, sour cream, lime wedges and cilantro in separate bowls. Set out with the warm tortillas and hot sauce, and invite guests to make their own tacos.
