Giving thanks on World Diabetes Day
|
|
Today is World Diabetes Day, and we are celebrating as we build awareness of the overall needs of the T1D community. Today, we reflect on all we accomplished, all the work that remains to be done, and how thankful we are for our community and the support we give each other on a regular basis.
As we enjoy the cooler November weather and prepare for Thanksgiving, it's a great time to also reflect on the many blessings we appreciate here at Camp Kudzu.
I am especially thankful for our key stakeholders: our champions that support Camp Kudzu all year long as our "Compass Society" members. Of course we also want to celebrate the commitment of our 650+ amazing volunteers and Medical Staff. In total, our volunteers provide more than 62,000 hours each summer (translates to 7 years) and make everything we do at Camp Kudzu possible! Camp Kudzu is a monumental group effort throughout the year, and without the dedication of our volunteers and Kudzu family, there's no way we would continue to succeed in changing the lives of so many children and teens with type 1 diabetes.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to our successful 11th Annual Camp Kudzu Benefit Luncheon as we honored Kathy Womack. Our sincere gratitude goes out to our wonderful Luncheon Committee and leadership of our Co-Chairs, Melissa Zgonc and Jan Studdard. Due to the generosity of those in attendance, we are on track to raise more than $230,000 and fund 148 campers alone with the proceeds from the "Fund-A-Camper" program. It's not too late for you to make a difference! You can still make a meaningful gift that can allow for a camper to take part in Camp Kudzu's programs that otherwise might not be able to participate.

Congratulations to our incredible 2018 Camp Kudzu Ambassadors, each receiving the "Alexandra Allen Light the Way Award." This is an impressive group of Kudzu's most dedicated alumni that include: Mindy Bartleson, Nicole Bernath, Julie Cortes, Erin Dever, Laura Gillespie, Caroline Graff, Brian Starks, and Zach Whigham. I also want to recognize our Ambassadors' fundraising efforts, raising more than $11,000 for Camp Kudzu's programs - which translates to 11 camper scholarships - as part of "Fund-A-Camper." THANK YOU!
Keep reading for more information about upcoming programs. We are excited to unveil our five 2019 summer sessions - including our "Sprouts" day camp program - and announce open registration for our Teen Retreat: February 1-3, 2019.
Finally, one last thank you for all the ways you and your family support Camp Kudzu. Thank you so much for giving your time, your effort, and your treasures in supporting our important cause. I hope you and your families have a wonderful Thanksgiving and start to the holiday season.
