Easter |
|
Alleluia! Christ is Risen! The Easter weekend weather was absolutely perfect for the celebration the Resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Christ Church, St. Ignatius and the Parish House were filled with music, flowers and the faithful, for this holiest of holy days. To see photos of this joyous time, to go the Christ Church photo page here. |
Lenten Meditations |
|
"
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."
- Colossians 3:17
I want to send out a big thank-you to everyone who made our 2018 Lenten meditation series a success. It involved 40 writers and musicians who put a lot of care, thought, effort and prayer into creating the daily meditations, and they all did a wonderful job. This was an outstanding creative team and I am very proud of them. I also thank our entire parish family for following the daily offerings which was a necessary part of the entire undertaking. Those contributions of encouragement, prayer and study were crucial to making our shared Lenten pilgrimage very meaningful. It is a blessing to be part of the Christ Church family.

Colonial Worship Service - April 15th |
|
Glynn County's 13th Annual Patriots Day Celebration is being held on St. Simons Island the weekend of April 13-15th. The
celebration
is sponsored by the Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution; the Brunswick Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution; Fort Frederica Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution; and the Marshes of Glynn Chapter Sons of the American Revolution. The celebration culminates in the Colonial Worship Service, which is being held at Christ Church's St. Ignatius Chapel on Sunday morning, April 15th, at 9:00 am. This worship service is set in a historical context during the time-frame of the American Revolution (1775-1783). Many worshipers are dressed in Colonial attire, and the hymns, anthem and sermon reflect the culture and sentiments of America in the 18th century. All are welcome to attend. Period attire is optional.

Where is the Kingdom of Heaven? |
|
By John La Boone
""Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter." - Matthew 7:21
There are a number of phrases from the Bible that we encounter all the time but they are not usually explained and not explored in depth by most people. Many of them probably had an easily understood meaning to their original audiences, but that meaning has become obscure with the passing of the centuries. One of my favorites is "the kingdom of heaven."

ECW Scholarship |
|
A newly established scholarship fund created by the Christ Church Frederica Episcopal Church Women is being inaugurated this year.
Annually, the Christ Church Frederica ECW Scholarship Fund for Women will provide $2,500 to a female high school graduate pursuing a degree through an academic or technical college or university. The student must be of the Episcopal faith and hale from Glynn or McIntosh County.
"Many of our Christ Church women have, over the last fifteen years, donated to this wonderful effort to establish a scholarship program for our young ladies. The fruit of our gifts will now benefit many young women with their future educational goals. In establishing this scholarship we honor those who came before us and saw this as just a dream... but now it is a reality and we could not be more pleased," noted Jane Watson, President, Episcopal Church Women.
Applications may be accessed via the Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation website here
and are due no later than April 21, 2018. Candidates will be screened and interviewed by a scholarship committee and the award will be made in May.

Docents and Greeters Needed in Christ Church! |
|
Christ Church needs docents and greeters! As the team of volunteer docents has diminished over the last few months, due to illness and retirements, so have the number of days we are able to keep the church open to visitors.
Currently, we have a skeleton crew of volunteers to man the church Tuesday through Sunday in the afternoons. After March, we will definitely need some additional folks to help. You can assist by volunteering to docent once a month from 2 to 5 pm. There is a training session before docents embark on this wonderful opportunity to share the remarkable story of our church. Contact: Fred Collins at [email protected] to become a docent.
