|
|
|
National Category Winner - Small Government
On March 20, 2018, Morneau Shepell and The Globe and Mail announced the category winners of the second annual Employee Recommended Workplace Award at The Globe and Mail Centre in Toronto. These were the organizations with the top Total Health scores in their business categories, representing privately owned, public, not-for-profit, and government sectors in the small, mid-sized and large business categories.
The Employee Recommended Workplace Award recognizes excellence in achieving a healthy, engaged and productive workforce, and is the only award of its kind based entirely on feedback from employees. Employees completed a short confidential survey that includes questions about their physical and mental health, as well as aspects of their work and life - all elements of Total Health that impact employee engagement and productivity. Upon completion, organizations received a summary report that identified areas of strength and areas where more work may be needed to improve the health of their workforce.
The Municipality of the County of Cumberland was not only recognized as an Employee Recommended Workplace, but it was also recoginized as the 2018 category winner for Small Government!

Chemical Safety
Its easy to become complacent with chemical safety, whether you work around chemicals frequently or not very often.
Did you know that mixing bleach with some household cleaners, like toilet bowl cleaners that contain acid, can generate chlorine gas? And mixing bleach with window cleaner containing ammonia generates toxic chloramine vapour?
Both gases are very pungent and very toxic to the lungs. The reactions can cause immediate burning in the eyes and lungs. If it is breathed in sufficient concentration, it can cause chemical pneumonia to develop, or even death by suffocation.
Be aware of any chemicals in your workplace and use the following tips to help make your workplace safe:
