A Message from the Principal...

|
Dear St. Louis Families,
This week, we lit the first candle on the Advent wreath, and we began our preparation for the coming of Jesus! We were blessed to share our time, talents and treasure (delicious food!) with others as we hosted the Missionaries of Charity, the residents of their D.C. home, and the seniors of our parish for a luncheon on Wednesday. What a blessing to serve others and have some fun at the same time! We also enjoyed having Santa travel all the way from the North Pole for a special visit!

Our elementary grades spent the week practicing for our Christmas Program, "Lessons and Carols". They have been working very hard and look forward to performing for you this Thursday, Dec. 13th at 7pm (student arrival time at 6:15). Our performance will be in the church, and there will be standing room only, so be prepared to be close to your neighbor! It is always worth it, and is a beautiful way to start the season!
The Diocesan CYO basketball season started games last weekend in parish gyms all around Northern Virginia, including our own gym! We are grateful to the efforts of Judy Conti and John Bednarek for organizing our parish sports teams year-round, and we are excited to have basketball games in our home gym thanks to their planning and organizing. We are also grateful for all of the coaches who put tremendous time, effort and care into their work with the athletes. We want our children to learn about good sportsmanship, skilled fitness and the importance of teamwork, all with Christ at the center.
Report cards come home today! I am grateful to the teachers for their daily assessment of our students and their diligence in preparing grades for you. Please remember to sign report cards and return them next week.

Our school community loves all branches of the military, but this week brought on the competitive spirit of our soldiers, marines and sailors! First grade teacher, Mrs. Fortier, is Team Army all the way - - her husband and daughter are West Point graduates (and Madeline is St. Louis class of 2010). Middle School English teacher, Mrs. Blochberger, leads Team Navy - - her husband and son are Naval Academy graduates! The two spend this same week leading up to the Army-Navy College football game each year providing one another with pranks, surprises and friendly competitions, which keep us laughing and the students fully entertained! Whatever your preference, Go Team! #weloveourmilitaryfamilies

This Advent season, our school is participating in the annual Scholastic Book Club's Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive benefiting Pajama Program, a national nonprofit organization that provides new pajamas and storybooks to at-risk children. Pajama Program supports children living in shelters, group homes, and foster care. You can find out more about the drive and Pajama Program at:

Happy national influenza vaccination week and national handwashing week! Vaccination and appropriate handwashing are the best ways to protect yourself and your loved ones during influenza season. To highlight these important public health recommendations, the Fairfax County Health Department has developed a respiratory illness letter for the school community. The letter encourages vaccination, handwashing, and staying home when ill. Please find the

As we head into the Holiday season, please consider donating items to the Silent Auction. No donation is too small. We don't want to add a burden to families during this time of the year, but we will happily accept donations of items you may have already. Wine bottles you received as a hostess gift, gift cards you have in a drawer that you don't think you'll use, that gift you just don't have a place for, these are all items that the auction committee can use. Knights of Columbus "Keep Christ in Christmas" Poster Contest
|
Greetings to everyone! Welcome to this year's "Keep Christ in Christmas" Poster Contest! Create a poster with a visual theme that reflects keeping Christ in Christmas. The poster should include the original work of a single person and be approximately 11x17 inches. (If pastels, chalk or charcoal are used the poster must be laminated or covered with plastic.) the entry form for three age categories, ages 5-7, ages 8-10, ages 11-14. There is a $50 monetary prize for each winner! The contest opens directly after Thanksgiving and entries are due December 31st to the Council Hall (you may turn it in to the school front office).
