Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We hope you also have a restful yet productive Fall Reading Week. King's is closed today (October 8) and some hours of operation may have changed just for this week.

Aamjiwnaang First Nation's Annual "Toxic Tour"

Join us on a trip to Aamjiwnaang First Nation for a community-led "Toxic Tour" to learn about "Chemical Valley's" environmental impacts.

St. Joseph's Hospitality Centre

On the first and second Saturday of the month, King's gathers at the St. Joseph's Hospitality Centre to foster community with our brothers and sisters in the core of the city. We provide music, crafts, something to eat and some fellowship. They provide us stories of hope. If you would like to be of assistance, please email Annette Donovan-PanchaudWe are always in need of food donations and volunteers.

World's Challenge Challenge

Western University has held the World's Challenge Challenge over the past four years during International Week. More than 30 teams compete annually by presenting their unique ideas to a panel of academic and community leaders. The winning team members each receive $1,000 to help fund an international learning experience  AND  have the opportunity to compete in the  International World's Challenge Challenge , for a top team prize of $30,000.
 
The deadline to apply is October 15

Indigenous Knowledge Keeper, Liz Akiwenzie, will be on campus in the King Student Life Centre. Liz can answer any questions about the traditions and history of indigenous culture. Bring your tea or coffee for an informal sharing of knowledge.

The Concept of Genocide

History at King's is proud to host Dr. Douglas Irvin-Erickson, Director of the Genocide Prevention Program at George Mason University, who will be giving a talk entitled -"Raphael Lemkin and the Concept of Genocide: the Man, the Myth, the Legend."

Be Well: Building Confidence, Adaptability and Optimism

Are you struggling with stress, procrastination, or the changes that come with university life? Are you experiencing concerns around identity, worry, or low mood? Would you like to develop strategies for building your well-being? If so, please join us for this 8-week group experience when we will use a variety of approaches, including discussion, activities and mindfulness techniques. 

This group is free. Registration is required.

Veritas Series

Dr. Tim O'Malley will be the guest speaker for the second Veritas Series of the academic year. He will be speaking on Liturgy and the University of the Church. 
Talk summary: The Church must think about liturgical inclusion not simply as a series of tactics to increase liturgical participation. Instead, it must relate to the Church's very mission to transform the entire world in Eucharistic love.

Show Your Colours!
Wear your King's green and gold at Homecoming 2018! Alumni with graduation years ending in 3 and 8 have a special incentive to attend, as they will be celebrating anniversaries. We have a full schedule of events planned, including an evening with Rick McGhie, an alumni brunch, and seats at the Western Mustangs football game against the Laurier Golden Hawks.

Vote for Liberal Arts 101

King's University College is pleased to announce the Liberal Arts 101 program has been named a finalist for the 2018 Pillar Community Innovation awards in the Community IMPACT category. Liberal Arts 101 is a free non-credit university experience for people with an interest in learning but who may experience barriers to a traditional university experience. 
 
Voting is now open! You can vote for the King's Liberal Arts 101 program until November 2. The winner will be announced at the Pillar Community Innovation Awards on November 22.
Meet your Library Research Assistants!

Zachary Kagaoan, Amber Matthews, Oona Nadler, Andrea MacDonald join the library staff at the Reference Desk to help staff, instructors, and students. Your library research assistants will help you find resources and books, learn strategies to avoid plagiarism, locate online articles & e-books, access Research Guides, find films, and use many library services.
