Meadowview's PBIS Program Receives State Honors
Kudos to our team of educators from Meadowview Elementary for earning the silver recognition from the Ohio PBIS Network on November 29 in Columbus. Each year, schools in Ohio are recognized for their Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS) implementation. Schools are eligible to receive awards at the bronze, silver or gold level of distinction.

The Ohio PBIS Network recognizes schools that demonstrate best practices and are open and transparent in the sharing of their knowledge and resources with other schools. The honored schools were recognized for doing a superior job of enhancing their school climate and culture in support of students and their academic achievement.

Pictured is the Meadowview team with Paolo DeMaria, Superintendent of Public Instruction in Ohio. After receiving their certificate, the Meadowview team spent the afternoon presenting their successful PBIS program to educators from throughout the state at the 2018 Ohio PBIS Showcase.

“I was proud to represent Meadowview Elementary. Our Meadowview MonSTARs choose to be respectful, responsible, problem solvers. Our team was honored to share our success story with other educators,” said Meadowview Principal Kelli Ellison.
Students Caring for our Flock
Milford 7th graders Chloe Lewis and Jessie Hore collaborated on an art project turned service project during their WOW Art Experience time. During WOW, students are challenged to plan, collect materials, and implement their own self-guided, student choice projects.

Chloe and Jessie decided to make and sew fabric bags to fill with donations for the needy. They cut the fabric, used the makerspace sewing machines, and created tote bags they later filled with food and personal items they purchased. They even created stamped personal notes and tied them to the bags.

"These girls truly did this from the heart and wanted to use their artwork to make a difference," said Adrian Hawk, MJHS art teacher.

Chloe and Jessie will be donating their handmade care packages to Milford's Feed Our Flock program to benefit Milford students in need.
DECA and Anthony Munoz Join Forces for Service Campaign
Milford High School DECA students hosted their annual Mary Miller breakfast on December 4 to celebrate their charity drive to benefit Clermont County families. A total of 75 laundry baskets filled with health and beauty products and $2,000 in donations were collected by these Milford students.

The Adopt-a-Basket Campaign was coordinated by the DECA students and their DECA teacher/advisor Toni Parker as a part of the Anthony Muñoz Foundation Service Challenge. Former Bengal Anthony Muñoz was at the breakfast to congratulate the students for their effort as a part of his foundation’s service challenge.

"I am beyond proud of the hard work and dedication that all of my students put into this project. Their efforts are greatly appreciated and I know that the recipients of these donations will be very thankful," Parker said.

The baskets and funds collected were given to Milford Miami Ministries and Wrapping Clermont Together (WCT). Milford Miami Ministries oversees the Mary Miller Fund, established in 1952 by lifelong Milford resident Mary Miller who devoted herself to serving the needy in our community. WCT is a collaboration of agencies, businesses, and individuals in Clermont County administrated by Landmark Ministries.
Mulberry Student Artwork to be Displayed at
Cincinnati Nature Center
On Saturday, December 8 and Sunday, December 9, the Cincinnati Nature Center will be holding a Mulberry Art Show in conjunction with their annual Charley Harper Celebration. Mulberry 5th grade students worked in math, science, and art to create works of art inspired by Charley Harper.

"We are grateful that the Cincinnati Nature Center was willing to work side-by-side with the 5th graders at Mulberry," said Mulberry teacher Andrew Campbell. "Students gained a realization that science and math are all around them and not singular subjects. By working on the Charley Harper project, students began to see science and math as a language that describes the world."
National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony Features Milford Junior High's Ohio Tree
Milford Junior High School was selected as one of just 56 schools across the nation to create ornaments for the National Christmas Tree. Milford Junior High School art teacher Adrian Hawk and Dan Yeager, Director of Fine Arts and Activities, visited Washington, D.C. on November 28 to witness the 96th Annual National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and see the Ohio tree our students decorated with their artwork.

"It was such an honor to get to visit our capital to see art created by my students in such a beautiful display in a National Park! The junior high art students really represented our state well through their thoughtful and creative designing of the holiday ornaments for our Ohio tree," Hawk said. "While in DC, I had the opportunity to visit some incredible art museums and brought back all kinds of inspiration and ideas to share with my students."

Beacon Gives Real-World Experience to MHS Anatomy Students
On November 28, Milford High School students were given a one-of-a-kind experience. Science teachers, Melody Moorhead and Pat Winkler, took a group of anatomy and physiology students to Beacon Orthopedic Summit Woods campus. Dr. Glen McClung gave students a lecture on the knee joint and an exploration of knee specimens in the cadaver lab. Students learned about common knee injuries and the specific surgeries necessary to repair them.

Our students were able to to participate in  dissection, muscle, tendon and ligament identification, and practice using an arthroscope. Students learned about the great respect given to the cadaver specimens acquired through organ donation.

“It was an awesome experience. We were all so grateful and inspired by this opportunity,” Moorhead shared.
Beacon offers this free program to schools through a partnership with Stryker Medical and the Beacon Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation.
