FROM RACHEL YATES, PRESBYTERY EXECUTIVE

CONTRADICTIONS
Her parents are police officers; she grew up with guns in her house. Tatiana understands her rights under the second amendment to the Constitution. But, she walked 50 miles from Madison to Janesville to protest gun violence, organizing dozens of other students to join her in this 4-day march. Tatiana Washington, a keynote speaker at the Wisconsin Council of Churches annual meeting, is, in some ways, a contradiction. Her life experiences have taught her to.

SERVICE OF ADVENT LONGING
The Christmas season is one of bright lights and decorations, family and friends, and good food. However, in the midst of being merry and bright during the Christmas season, the truth is that many of us are feeling anything but that. Our annual Service of Advent Longing provides sacred space for the stress, anxiety, family, health problems, politics, financial pressures, or the other weighty matters of our lives as we prepare to celebrate the Word becoming flesh even as we look forward to the final redemption of Creation. Heritage extends and invitation for you to join us as we worship together on Monday, December 10 at 7:00 pm. Please contact Michelle Henrichs (
mahenrichs@gmail.com
) with any questions.

Churches should have received their 2019 Per Capita Apportionment statement that was mailed last week. The Presbytery approved the amount of $38 per member. The apportionment is based on the church's December 31, 2017 membership. Our hope is that churches will remit their Per Capita Apportionment by March 31, 2019. Please let
Chris Halverson
know if you will be using a different schedule for payment or if you never received your statement.

"I presented the first research paper on the pastoral implications of "Xena: Warrior Princess" at the annual meeting of the American Society of Religion/Society of Biblical Literature."
This is Lori Patton, pastor at Bethesda Presbyterian in Waukesha. "Watching
Xena
'religiously' helped to keep me relatively sane during my first six years in the Ph.D. program in Religion and Personality at Vanderbilt, so when I had to write a term paper for a course on Freud and Religion in 1996, I chose an early
Xena episode as the focus. That term paper was radically expanded and reorganized in 1998 in order to be included in a panel on "Women and Religion in Popular Culture" at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Religion on November 21, 1998. I can hardly believe it's been twenty years since that presentation, but I've got an online version of my paper to remind me just how very long ago that was:
Working Out Your Own Salvation With 'Xena: Warrior Princess
(Or, the Renewing of Ego Ideals in Syndication)."
Unfortunately no one guessed correctly but keep trying and thanks for playing!
******************************************************************************
WHO IS THIS?
This pastor is an avid mountain biker.
Send your guess to
Chris Halverson
and the first person to guess correctly will be recognized next week and receive a free dinner at the next presbytery meeting!

NEWS FROM THE DENOMINATION

NEXT CHURCH TO MEET IN SEATTLE
"Ruth and Naomi's lives were woven together in a season of despair and displacement. Environmental trauma, poverty, forced migration, food insecurity, personal vulnerability, and power differentials continue
to shape our shared human experience now as it did then. God interlaced the threads of Ruth and Naomi's individual stories. Through God's weaving, these women learned mutual sacrifice, found healing community, and shared liberation." That's the way NEXT Church introduces its coming national gathering on its website. The event takes place March 11-13 at First Presbyterian Church in Seattle. The theme: "Woven Together: Stories of Dissonance, Sacrifice and Liberation." Details, including registration information, are at "NEXT Church."
