The Contra Costa Elections Division has received a Clearinghouse Award from the US
Election Assistance Commission (EAC) for their accessibility work!
The Clearinghouse Awards recognize best practices in election administration and highlight exemplary models which can serve as examples to other officials and jurisdictions.
The award was for "A Simple (Accessible) Path for All" which describes the innovative Accessible Polling Place Locations and Equipment (APPLE) class and new kits for establishing and maintaining accessible polling places.

Not everyone can make it to the polls on Election Day, which is why you have the ability to vote early both in person and by mail.
Voting by mail gives you flexibility in casting and returning your ballot. It's simple too. Ballots are mailed 29 days before Election Day along with voting instructions and information on how to return your ballot.
Place your marked ballot in the return envelope and seal it. Be sure to sign the addressed return envelope. Without a signature the ballot cannot be counted.

Vision Zero
 The County is in the process of developing a Plan to address severe and fatal collisions on County-owned roadways. The Plan will identify key collision trends in the County, priority corridors in which severe and fatal collisions occur, and an implementation strategy to address the collision trends. The implementation strategy will include engineering, education, and/or enforcement measures.
Through a holistic and data-driven approach, the County and its partner agencies are implementing studies and programs to help people move safely.

Every day for the last 50 years Meals on Wheels Diablo Region has provided the support that allows Contra Costa County's most vulnerable older adults to remain healthy and
independent.
Close to 10,000 people a year call Meals on Wheels looking for help. For all of their clients, the trained staff makes a holistic assessment of their life needs and connects them with a network of support services; these range from nutrition to social interaction to fall prevention to health and wellness activities.
Supervisor Burgis' office will be at the March for Meals event. We hope to see you there!

The Board of Supervisors Recognized Choice in Aging's 70th Anniversary
at February 12th Board meeting.
Choice in Aging is a nonprofit organization that has been serving Contra Costa
County and the broader Bay Area
since 1949, continuing to support their mission, "To promote dignity and independence of people with disabilities and special needs.
Choice in Aging runs several programs including: two Adult Day Health
Care Programs, two Multi-Purpose Senior Services Programs, and the California
Community Transitions Project.
They also offer a licensed program, Alzheimer's Day Care & Resource Center, for participants who are in the mid-to-late stages of Alzheimer's or related dementia, which provides respite for caregivers, in-depth case management, exercise, and social interaction
In 2017, the Board of Directors approved and created Choice in Learning Montessori and implemented the Young at Heart Intergenerational Program, which brings together Mt. Diablo
Center and Choice in Learning through sing-alongs, story time and other traditional
preschool activities.Choice in Aging is also a teaching institute and provides internship opportunities certified nursing assistants, nurses and social workers.

Help us Sound the Alarm about Fire Safety * May 1st
|
Every day, 7 people die and another 36 people suffer injuries because of home fires. You can help change that and prevent these tragedies.
To save lives and reduce fire-related injuries, the American Red Cross launched a nationwide Home Fire Campaign. The Red Cross is teaming up with fire departments, volunteers, and partners to Sound the
Alarm with home fire safety and smoke alarm installation events in communities across our county.
Join us in one of the following roles:
* Canvassers by phone or in person - this is done ahead of time
* Smoke Alarm Installer - Conduct home visits, test existing smoke alarms, replace batteries, and install smoke alarms using a drill.
* Disaster Safety Educator - Provide live-saving education and assist residents in completing a home fire escape plan.
* Documenter - Complete service acknowledgment forms and reports for campaign tracking, and assist educator and installer as needed.
* Driver - Transport installation teams and supplies to and from headquarters and residences.
* Restocking supply bags - this is done post event to get ready for the next session
* Data Entry - this is done post event to input all the necessary information

Knightsen Town Advisory Council Members Sought

Contra Costa County Supervisor Diane Burgis is actively recruiting for volunteers to serve on the Knightsen Town Advisory Council (TAC).
The Knightsen TAC
advises the District Supervisor on land issues and planning matters affecting the Knightsen community.
The Knightsen TAC may also advise the District Supervisor on services which are or may be provided to the community by Contra Costa County or other local government agencies. Such services include, but are not limited to, public health, safety, welfare, public works, and planning.
The Knightsen TAC will meet on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 7:30pm (meeting time subject to change) located at the Knightsen Garden Club, 3067 Knightsen Avenue in Knightsen.

Contra Costa County's C.O.R.E. Homeless Outreach Team
|
Contra Costa's Coordinated Outreach Referral, Engagement (C.O.R.E.) program works to engage and stabilize homeless individuals living outside through consistent outreach to facilitate and/or deliver health and basic need services and secure permanent housing.
C.O.R.E. teams serve as an entry point into Contra Costa's coordinated entry system for unsheltered persons and work to locate, engage, stabilize and house chronically homeless individuals and families.
The outreach teams identify individuals living on the streets, assess their housing and service needs, and facilitate connection to shelter and services.
