New "Take & Lock" Public Safety Signs Available

Take _ Lock Public Safety Signs
Westchase District recently updated some of its public safety signage, tweaking the message of the "Lock, Take, Hide" signs frequently seen in parking lots and garages throughout the District.

"I'm not a big fan of the 'hide' part of that message," said Don McKinney, Westchase District's public safety director. "The surest way to prevent thieves from stealing your personal property is to take it with you. If they suspect that there's something they want inside your vehicle, they will find a way to break in and take it. Don't become a victim by leaving your valuables behind. And - though it seems like common sense, it bears repeating -always lock your vehicle."

McKinney said the signs, will be phased in on an as-needed replacement basis. If you are interested in purchasing these signs at cost for your property, contact McKinney at 713-780-9434.

Be Our "Eyes on the Trails," Report Concerns

Sheldon Cohn and Toby
Sheldon Cohn and Toby Drinking Fountain

Meet Sheldon Cohn and his dog, Toby. Together, they walk portions of the Westchase District trail network nearly every day. As a high-frequency user, Cohn notices things -such as debris on the trail, water fountain leaks or signage suggestions - and brings them to the attention of the District's projects department.

"We appreciate people like Sheldon because we're not able to be on the trails at all times," said Irma Sanchez, Westchase District's vice president of projects. "Sheldon is an extra set of eyes on the trails and we could use more people like him to help us keep our trail network in the best condition possible."

Sanchez encourages trail users with non-emergency concerns to report them at 713-780-9434.

Low-Key Approach Fits District Business to a T

Inside an unassuming service center in Westchase District on Westoffice Drive sits  Accent Screen Printing, Inc., a woman-owned business that has quietly been decorating garments with screen printing and embroidery since 1994.

Owner Paula Sidler estimates that in 2017 alone, her crew of 12 employees adorned about one million garments with logos, names, numbers and designs.
