Mill Valley's Response to Last Week's Bomb Threat 
On November 27th, the City of Mill Valley Police and Fire Departments received notice of a bomb threat at the Mill Valley Middle School. School officials quickly placed the entire campus of approximately 1,200 students, teachers, staff and administrators on shelter in place, and then ordered an evacuation to the Mill Valley Community Center.  Learn more.
Evacuation Planning 
The recent fires around the State have put into focus the importance of evacuation planning for communities such as ours. The City had dedicated resources to helping community members practice and prepare, including informational resources, annual evacuation drills, recruiting and training CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) members, and maintaining our City's Steps, Lanes and Paths. Miller Bike
The City of Mill Valley Named a Silver Level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists
The League of American Bicyclists has recognized the City of Mill Valley with a Silver Level Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) award, joining 464 visionary communities from across the country. The Silver Level BFC award recognizes the City of Mill Valley's commitment to improving conditions for bicycling through investment in bicycling promotion, education programs, and infrastructure. The designation is valid for four years and will be up for renewal in 2022. Learn more.
Traditional Mayoral Transition Moved to 2019
A new California law mandates that cities and towns consolidate their local elections with the presidential primary, which will take place in March of even numbered years. This will change Mill Valley's Municipal elections from November, to March, and changes the date of our annual Mayoral Transition, when the Council nominates and elects the Mayor and Vice Mayor. Our Mayoral Transition will now take place in 2019. Learn more.
Skate Park Renovation
The Skate Park Renovation Project has begun! 
This project is a collaborative community public/private effort facilitated by the Friends of Mill Valley Parks and Recreation, Friends of the Mill Valley Skate Park, Mill Valley Parks and Recreation Commission, Mill Valley Public Works and Recreation staff, and the Mill Valley School District.

Inside Mill Valley: Natalie McCall
Natalie McCall joined the Mill Valley Public Library in July as the new Head of Youth Services. She became a librarian because she believes there is magic in reading and that extraordinary bonds are formed when a community shares its books and stories. Visit her in the Children's Room anytime to tell her about books you love and ask for further reading recommendations.

Natalie is a Marin County native who grew up in Sausalito (where the library was her playground and second home) and graduated from Marin Academy in 2001. She has a Bachelor's degree in English from Columbia University and a Master's in Library and Information Science from UCLA. Before joining the Mill Valley Public Library, she managed the Albany Library in Alameda County where she created a city reads program for teens and adults.
2018 Angel Tree Program
The Mill Valley Police Officer's Association is pleased to announce that we will again be participating in the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program. This will be the third year the Mill Valley Police Officer's Association has had the honor of providing gifts to Marin County children through the generosity of Mill Valley citizens. Learn more.

Planning Commission Meeting - November 13, 2018

The Commission continued the following item:
  • 10 E. Laverne Lane - Design Review, Tree Permit, and Categorical Exemption. The Design review application is to construct a new 3,024 square foot two-story home and attached 621 square foot garage. The project proposes removal of one heritage oak tree. 

The Commission approved the following item:

  • 197 Corte Madera Avenue - Design Review, Accessory Dwelling Unit and Tree Permit Design Review proposal to demolish an existing 3,160 square foot, two-story residence and construct a new 4,272 square foot, two-story home, detached 500 square foot Accessory Dwelling Unit, and retain an existing 693 square foot, detached two-car garage on a 33,830 square foot lot. Two non-heritage trees are proposed for removal. 
City Council Meeting - November 19, 2018
Council:
  • Received a presentation by the Marin Municipal Water District on an Update on water Conservation Practices and Maintaining Water Infrastructure in the Mill Valley Community.
  • Adopted Ordinance No. 1305 adopting changes to the Mill Valley Municipal Code Section 1.15.010, changing the date of the City's General Municipal Election to comply with the regulations of Senate Bill 568.
  • Received a report on the six-month update regarding Utility Street Markings. 
  • Approved a $25,000 General Fund budget adjustment, accepted $27,726 in donations and budgeted the same for the Skate Park Project in the 2018-2020 Capital Improvement Program Budget and received a project update.
  • Adopted Resolution No. 18-83 authorizing the execution of a Library Funding Support Agreement with the Mill Valley Library Foundation.
  • Received a presentation regarding a potential agreement to share services at the Fire Chief level between Southern Marin Fire Protection District and the Mill Valley Fire Department and provided direction to staff.

Planning Commission Meeting - November 27

The Commission approved:

  • 465 Molino Avenue - Design Review and Tree Permit request to demolish an existing red-tagged 1,790 sq. ft. two-story residence with a legal non-conforming Accessory Dwelling Unit, pool, and no garage, and construct a new 3,462 sq. ft., two-story home with a 525 sq. ft. attached two-car garage, pool, and landscape improvements on a 14,920 sq. ft. lot. 

The Commission continued the following item to the December 11th, Planning Commission meeting at the applicant's request:

  • 50 Birch Street - Study Session for Design Review and Accessory Dwelling Unit request to demolish an existing 2,132 sq. ft. residence with a 431 sq. ft. garage, and build a new 3,575 sq. ft., two-story home with a detached 462 sq. ft. garage and 472 sq. ft. attached Accessory Dwelling Unit on a 16,264 sq. ft. lot.
City Council Meeting - December 3, 2018

The City Council:
  • Received a presentation and training by the City Attorney regarding State Senate Bill 1234 - Ethics Training, Brown Act, and Conflict of Interest laws. Watch the training.
  • Adopted a Resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute a construction contract with Linscott Engineering for the Glen Drive - Heather Lane Repairs and a Budget Adjustment of $85,000 to the Annual Storm Drain Repairs Account. 
  • Accepted a $7,500 donation from the Enjoy Mill Valley Fund (for holiday lights). 
  • Authorized a one-time 3% performance bonus for the City Manager.
  • Discussed an ordinance modifying Title 20 ("Zoning") of the Mill Valley Municipal Code amending regulations associated with "Accessory Dwelling Units" and continued to a future meeting.
Parks and Recreation Meeting - December 5, 2018

The Mill Valley Parks and Recreation Commission considered a use request for Old Mill Park by Pacific Coast Trail Runs for the 4th Annual Eldrith's Trail Run on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 6:00am to 6:00pm. They accepted a $13,680 donation from Mill Valley Friends of Parks and Recreation and a $8,000 donation from John and Cindy McCauley.  They received Department Reports on: 
  • Skate Park Project Update
  • Golf Course Maintenance Update
  • Golf Course Master Plan Update
Commissioners reviewed and discussed the Draft 2019 Athletic Field Allocations.
